@erinyogaski It is by room. But, it would easily work floor by floor.

Some rooms we wanted the contrast of the black interior and some rooms we wanted the flow of white (I hope that makes sense to you).

@doc5md yes! It does. That's exactly what I was thinking. I want bedrooms to be warm and more seamless. Window coverings. Open spaces to be framed by the views. Thank you for your input!

I am doing the white in the bedrooms and doing the living, kitchen and dining room in black. I have seen it done many times and it looks good.

I don't claim to be a designer, but its not at all uncommon to see the main living area with a different color than the bedrooms, etc. As long as it is separated and has clear intention, it looks nice IMO.

I have a similar dilemma and want to paint a mix of white and black window frames (all trim will be white regardless). In our vaulted main bedroom there is one large window with a small peak window above and then a long transom window on another wall (see photo).

Would you paint the window frames black on all windows or would it be ok to just paint the large picture window black and leave the transom white? What about the small peak window? We have an Office with this window set up, too. Both rooms are on the first floor. Thanks!

I’d paint them all the same color if it were my room, especially since one window is above the other and include the transom window. Then they will all compliment each other instead of compete with each other.
