Unfortunately, I live halfway across the country, so I can’t get a pic. She’s not tech savvy either, so that’s out the window too. I’m just going by what she told me over the phone.

That said, she did mention it’s been a dry spring there up until recently. Maybe a connection there?

Linden is a favorite tree and like candy to a Japanese beetles and four years ago we had an epidemic of the pest in Mpls/st. paul. This year and the last two the population was moderate but my six year old lindens still aren't big enough to survive a summer without spraying them.

The beetles can easily kill young lindens over a couple of years and could be the reason they're dead now.

This is the first time I’ve seen them for myself in leaf for two years. What’s crazy is there’s small green buds, the twigs are pliable and scratching the bark reveals green underneath. All that said, no leaves. I‘m not holding put much hope for recovery.

when it tries to leaf much lower down the tree.. it usually means everything above is dead ..

the sideways pic doesnt help ... and i dont understand where it is on the tree.. so im speculating... try retaking the pic without turning your gizmo???

This is right where the bottom branches start about 5’ off the ground. the trees are about 20’ tall over all.
