Hello from another resident of NE Ohio! I have also been looking for more yellows since they look so great next to blue hostas. Up to last year, I had Fire Island and Maui Buttercup. I got some small yellows from Bob Solberg at Green Hill Hostas last fall, Lettuce Wrap and Lemon Snap. They are very yellow. -He specializes in yellows and recently yellows with red petioles. I am considering Tom Terrific, Dahlonega or Golden Falls for a larger yellow this year. Land of the Giants Hostas has some online, but Jeff is not taking new orders at this time. I just got Paradise Island at our club auction. It's a sport of Fire Island and is very yellow.

Surprised no one said Sum & Substance (gets huge), starts out medium green with blue under tones, then becomes Chartreuse/ yellow. Then there’s Giantland Elegance, Giantland Peeps, Marilyn, Prairie Moon, August Moon, Munchkin Fire, Maui Buttercups, Lemontini, World Cup and I can’t think of any more, but I bet mikegag will——haha

I'm not sure where to draw the line between yellow, chartreuse and lime green. My favorite chartreuse is Squash Casserole. It enjoys a lot of sun.

You might go to the Hosta Library and look under G, there are many varieties that have Gold or Golden in the name.

Good idea, made me think of Gold Standard which will get parchment colored with enough sun.

Everyone, thank you for the recommendations! Sun Power and Key West were two already on my list. I’ll certainly look up these others. Great Lakes is a certainty since I like anything with an Ohio theme.

I have Sum and Substance and mine is a very bright green. As someone else said, the line between green, yellow and chartreuse is very thin.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake is yellow and green to start and turns more yellow later in the season for me. I love the wavy leaves.

I don't really grow the giant ones. They take up too much space. Chartreuse are my favorites.

When you're looking into Yellows you want to consider whether they are lutescent (start green, turn yellow) or viridescent (start yellow, turn green). The brightest spring yellows are viridescent - Dawn's Early Light, English Sunrise, Prairie Moon. Dancing Queen and Jessica Alba have wonderful ruffled leaves. I just wish these stayed yellow as they turn green too quickly for me. Planting in more sun is supposed to help, but I think the color change is related to temperature. Gilt By Association is one of my current favorites. Ruffled leaves, white backs, takes mid-afternoon to evening full sun without burning. By the end of May it is turning green after the heat wave last week (shown below), but still has lots of character as the sun keeps parts of it yellow.

Yes it starts out a very bright yellow. Mine was planted in 2019.

It had a rough spring last year, but at the end of June, the color still looks good, if you like chartreuse - like me.

I tend to look for more lutescent Hosta as the yellow comes later but lasts longer.

Pineapple Juice is PUDC without the green edge. By August last year it had moved beyond yellow in a very shady location.

And it starts turning quickly - end of May last year (ignore the reverting green pieces)

If the green edge doesn't bother you, look no further than Amalia/Dancing Darling/First Dance.

I suppose there are some that essentially start gold and stay gold like previously mentioned - Key West, Coast to Coast, Sun Power etc. but not my specialty. I have to mention Gila River. Yellow with a thin white edge and big lavender flowers. Moved it last year as it was burning in full morning sun.

I could go on and on (and might a bit later).

SS can be a full sun plant in OH ... and the more sun.. the yellower it will be ...

I bought 3 new hostas yesterday. They should arrive next week.

I’m hoping that I will end up with something that stays yellow or chartreuse.

Dancing Queen grows fast here near Boston, and does quite well in full sun. It comes up yellow and stays that way. The medium yellow hostas in this bed are all Dancing Queens. They have not reached their mature size for this season yet. This hosta is very bright yellow, with long flowing leaves.

My DQ must need more sun. Here it is today (upper right). Its not green yet but Faith in the lower left has almost caught up and it is just getting more yellow.

(Oh and Dancing Queen is quite the parent as evidenced by all the seedlings around her).

If you're going yellow and don't need something large you should consider one of the new yellows with red petioles: Lemon Snap and Owens Outrage stand out to me so far. Owens Outrage is just a little newcomer.

And then there are some frosty yellows with wax like Fog Light. It is lutescent and looks different in different lighting and not just to the camera. Here it is in July in sunlight and shade (same plant).

Is it blue, green or yellow? Yes. Same thing with Chorus Girl that begins life green and transitions into some blue/yellow/light green thing.
