In some places, it's raining . . . storming . . . In some places, it's over 100 deg. Here, it's rather chilly/foggy/breezy . . . But it's a good time to stop and give thanks.

Happy Memorial Day! We’re having a heat wave, Jeri. Ugh. But the garden is watered, and we wisely installed AC in our house a few years ago.

Here’s a bouquet in honor of the Memorial Day weekend. Yes, that’s Dr. Huey! Wichuraiana hybrids tend to blackspot here, and he’s no exception. As soon as his flowers fade, he spots up and drops all his leaves. But you can’t kill him which is a plus. He comes back from his summer shearing like firecrackers! He makes an outstanding, red velvet, cut flower. And since he’s firmly rooted in a spot that I can’t get to without shredding other plants, he stays...and blooms and sends his deep red regards to everyone. Carol

Amen, Jeri, and Memorial Day greetings to all. Foggy, cool, and breezy here, too, but predicted to be 102F on Memorial Day -- what better time to enjoy the dark red roses before they go all crispy? My current little side-table bouquet, the scent of which travels many feet:

Even as I sit here on the couch, I can look across the street and see an ever-exuberant Dr. Huey, merrily waving his arms and red blooms above a short hedge of identical pink roses along a rail fence, a lively little uprising within a rather staid landscape....

Dr. Huey has become a symbol of quiet determination and vernacular beauty. The new red badge of courage. How appropriate for Memorial Day. :-)

Happy Memorial Day to all! Let us not forget! (I believe in the study of history.)

Still mild and rather sticky here, and the once-blooming roses are at their peak. Temperatures are forecast to rise in a few days, which I'm not looking forward to. But it will be warm, not hot; and the higher temperatures will encourage the tomatoes, peppers, and basil to grow.

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I wish that cemeteries still let people plant flowers on graves, because I can't visit my families grave sites this spring to bring them flowers as I would if I were in the area. Woo Hoo! La Reine on Memorial Day! Mine all just finished. Those foggy mornings are better than heat waves. Just a little pm here, nothing awful. Wish we could see these cool temps last a few more months. I got an accidental red white and blue. Florentine finally maturedintosomething grand. I have some potted 5 gallon lions roses in front of that and a nice blue native something I got at a plant sale. They all bloomed together in patriotic style. I did try earlier to time some French lace roses with a big daffodils planting. Nope..daffs went off and roses started opening as they were fading. Ah well....see what next year brings. The yellow iris are open for the second flush so not a total loss.

These crazy times... ill be thankful for whatever looks good. Happy beginning of summer to all the warm season folks and enjoy your spring time everyone up north.
