DA bare root orders for 2022 open

Hello fellow rose lovers! Just FYI that the David Austin US website opened up a lot of bare root inventory for 2022 pre-orders - for anyone who has been looking for some of their harder to find varieties, now is the time to order! (Unfortunately, I believe Evelyn is already sold out.)

As a tip, to see the older not-currently-promoted varieties either search by rose name, or scroll through the “shop all roses” option. If you shop by one of the menu options like color or condition, it doesn’t always include the older varieties.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I ordered Crocus Rose (been wanting this one for awhile), The Dark Lady (hard to find), and a replacement Eustacia Vye (see below, totally my fault!).

Re EV, I ordered one for this spring & it was in a pot & doing great - healthy with lots of new growth & buds. Then all of a sudden it drooped - I took a closer look & the pot drainage hole had gotten blocked, and there was an inch of standing water on top of the soil. I dumped out the standing water & drilled a couple of extra drainage holes in the bottom, but I fear it was too late - the canes are turning black at the bottom, which is most definitely not a good sign! I’ve had roses not thrive before, but this is the first time I’ve managed to actually kill one - I feel bad about it, but lesson learned.

Oh, that was too bad, Cyndita. Do they have Eustacia on hand for replacement? I can't believe they have started offering roses for 2022. My roses have just started blooming, and I don't want to think about 2022. I do love the look of Eustacia, though, and hope yours prospers. Diane

Thanks, Diane! It was a pre-order for 2022. I’m going to try cutting all the blackening canes off mine and will wait & see if it can make a comeback before tossing it, but it’s not looking good - I didn’t even take any pictures because it was all too pitiful looking!

I'm with Diane, I can't think about the 2022 season yet. The roses here aren't even blooming yet, not a single one, 2022 is too far away to worry about right now. I'm burned out from all the shopping, reading, researching, calls to nurseries that it took to settle on what I bought for this year!

Thanks for the notice. I knew Evelyn was difficult to get, but I didn’t realize it would be THIS difficult. Now I wish I would have brought my old one with me when I moved. I am half tempted to knock on the door or my old house and ask the new owners if they want it haha! I would never actually do it, I am to chicken. I hope they appreciate it though, probably don’t.

Such a bummer about your EV! I hope it

comes back; you never know. Now I am thinking maybe I should go out and drill more holes in my pots!

It seemed quite a bit early for 2022 considering DA hasnt even fulfilled all thur 2021 orders (I'm still waiting for Eustacia Vye...supposedly it was going to ship in May!).

I'm wondering if Evelyn's wasn't restocked yet. I've signed up to recieve an email upon restocking and didn't get any notice.

    Thanks for letting us know!

I ordered from David Austin for the first time this year (2021). The 3 bare root roses I received were very small compared to the to the bare roots I received from Edmunds. All 3 are still alive and growing with a few tiny blooms. It will take at least 4 years for these babies to mature. I had heard for years about their huge bare roots they sent out every year. SSOOOO, I think I will pass for next year. Besides, most of the new release's over the past several years have really grabbed my attention.
