Wow Debra - that’s pretty neat! I’m interested in this since I recently sought advice on my June that has solid blue leaves in spots & Steve gave me great advice & explained the Halcyon parentage. Amazing that the reverse happens too. i suppose a piece of June could’ve hitched a ride.....

Does this happen frequently? What is the explanation for this? Is it a reversion, or has Halcyon sported?

I have read that one can help some plants avoid reversions by dividing them regularly. You also could have had a tiny piece of June crown on the blue reversion after division.

Debra, I'd have to say it's a sport. Keep an eye on it and see if the variegation turn the way it does in 'June'....

it was so dark the flash went off!..June still has 3 blue leaves on one eye at the edge of the plant..

I've concluded some hostas are simply not stable.

My Junes revert to Halcyon. I pull off at least one reversion every season. I have one now I need to separate. It will be nice to have a mature Halcyon one day, but these reversions are very small and they grow slowly.

My Rainforest Sunrise reverts to Maui Buttercups and to something all green. I separate them every season too. They grow faster than the Halcyons. I love the Maui Buttercups. Not the green ones, though. They are give-aways.

My white-centered hostas, both the small ones and the larger ones, revert to all green. It's very annoying. I need to toss them all out and replace with something else. They were good for years, maybe for 10 years, staying white, and they multiplied, so I used them in abundance as I developed my garden. But now half of them are almost all green or all green. I don't want them any more, and they take up a lot of room. It will be a big expensive task to replace them. Darn. I don't know why they stayed white for so long them decided not to do that any more.

I would be very frustrated too if that happened to me. The only plant that ever reverted for me was June and also a mini Teeny Weeny Bikini. The TWB went all green, but interestingly a small piece of crown must have been left, 4 years now(?) and a tiny TWB set up some variegated leaves, go figure. Of course I am nusing it along.

For me, the worst for reversion was Dixie Chickadee. Such a pretty little thing, but it pushed solid green leaves hard and fast. it’s just a memory now 😉.
