I could think of some nice blues, but they aren’t vase shaped. Waterslide, Prairie Sky Yankee Blue, El Niño. What might look really cute is Wheee with it’s curly leaves. So Sweet is another one that would be nice. Good luck with your choice!

Your choices are endless. Since it takes anywhere from 3-5 (or more) years for a hosta to get mature leaves. This will not be a hosta's permanent home, as any potted plant will eventually have to be either up potted or divided or planted elsewhere. That pot has such a beautiful edge design you would probably want to keep it visible. Small hostas do better (for me) in shallower containers. With that size container, (guessing that it is at least a 2 gal capacity), you can grow darned near any hosta you like. And when you change your mind...put a different one in there. Pots are not permanent homes.

Peek-a-Boo Purple (or its variegated sport Kinky Boots). A great grower for me, planted in 2019 and a small one. Looking more green at the moment, but it gets there.

Did anyone mention Joyride?

A few more new ones from the right: Twinkle Little Star, Zucchini Fries (love this choice) and if you're tired of wavy blues, how about Lettuce Wrap (or Lemon Snap)?

Does it look like I like ruffled blue Hosta? I have some others, but I'll stop here. I may have a problem.

my yankee blue was a gift from the hybridizer ... when i last saw it it was 4 feet tall.. and 6 feet wide ... im thinking it wont fit in that pot ...

Wheee! does look super cute in a pot, which I can’t help but display right next to my front door. Have you checked Don’s hosta lists? He has a category for small to medium fountain shaped hostas.

I agree. A fountain shape would look good as it would show the pretty rim. A vase shape would just echo the shape of the pot and be redundant. Don's lists http://www.hostalists.org/index.php.

I was thinking maybe the Holar Garnet Crow in the flare top. The Curly Fries in the blue pot and the Lemontini in the small center pot.

I am having fun with these pots, too. I think I do not like my blues or dark greens in the terra cotta pot. Dressed to Kill, Blue Tooth, Chodai Ginyo and Golden Meadows may have to wait. The lighter colors and red petioles look beautiful. By daylight, I will have to have to reassess. Sun Kissed, Sugar Snap, Rainbow’s End.

Ok. This is the lineup for the pots. I will not keep them on the bench.

At first look, Lime Ripple and Raspberry Sundae catch my eye. However, they all look wonderful. I am still ordering some blues but will probably just plant in the garden.

the problem i see with your new pots.. are they are wider at top than bottom.. and knowing how hosta roots grow.. that might become a problem ...

also.. keep in mind.. you dont plant and forget a hosta in a pot ... so you will need constant repotting .. every other year or so .. i think babs noted such above .. if not others..

but the point of pot in pot is you can change the plant in the pot.. every day if you wanted ... as long as you had other pots of hosta ...

I don’t mind repotting. it is much easier than digging up plants in the Georgia clay. The reason I bought these pots was twofold, I have decided to simplify my design and have just terracotta pots and galvanized containers(I think it looks better in a cabin garden), and i wanted something affordable and durable. If I were to count I’d say over half of my hostas are in pots for ease of redesign.

Annette, thank you for finding that pot. You inspired me. My garden is not organized. Everything is in a different type of pot. With your find, I was able to improve that today after I decided which plants looked best in the terra cotta-ish pots.

Sun Kissed, Sunset Grooves, and Danubie Isla (which had been in a dark pot).

Now, the shed hostas all have the same color pot (L-R Sugar Snap, Brother Stefan, Sunset Grooves, Elegans, Sun Kissed, World Cup, and Cutting Edge). That also freed up the dark brown frost-resistant clay pot for Dressed to Kill. Thank you, Annette!

So did you actually repot everything or did you put the pot in the pot and top dress?

That Dressed To Kill looks awesome in the dark brown. It really is dressed to kill, now.
