Goodbye 1990s, hello 2021! From beige to color.

It took us just a few short weeks to transform the kitchen. We opted not to replace the cabinets as they were custom maple and in excellent condition and we were on a tight budget (we are redoing every single room in this new house), although we did put solid doors and cut down the cabinets by the stove to fit the hood.

Aesthetic: Modern Cottagecore

Floors: Oak in Minwax Provincial Stain

Backsplash: Daltile 3x6 0100 White Subway

Counters: LG Viatera Minuet Quartz

Cabinet Color: Benjamin Moore Caldwell Green

Hardware: Schaub & Company Menlo Park

Lighting: Hudson Valley Lighting

Appliances: Wolf Stove, Zephyr Hood, Bosch Stainless Steel Dishwasher/Fridge, Kohler Pro Series Faucet

Designer: Maria Killam

@Beth H. : Maria was our actual designer, she was doing our entire house reno, I’d be lost without her and Tricia. 😀 Thanks for the suggestion, fixed it!

are you happy with the hood. My designer suggested it too and I just don’t think it’s functional for us

@sunnyd82 yes, I like it a lot. What dont you like about it?

Jhoff86, it takes up so much space, elongates
Potential for cabinets above, and makes you have to find space for microwave elsewhere in the house

Awesome, love the pop of color!

@sunnyd82 ah, i see. we needed proper ventilation in the kitchen because I cook so I had to go with a hood. I also have a large walk-in pantry attached to the kitchen so we just put the microwave in there. Maybe you can put it in a bottom cabinet if you dont have a pantry?

@jhoff86, gorgeous and fun!!! Love a green kitchen (and Maria is pretty awesome too)!

@sunnyd82, I believe that I have that hood also and it's amazing!! Both the function of what it was designed to do, as well as the LED lights.

Such a lovely kitchen! The green is beautiful.

I find it amusing that Maria Killam worked on this because she is all about white kitchens, all the time.

    Enjoy it, it looks terrific!!

@nicoletouk She did give us a white option and a cream option as well that would work with the same backsplash and countertops! 😀 All my inspiration was green though so she gave me one bold choice and of course I had to go for it. White makes me think of my mom!

@tartanmeup thank you, ill be sharing more as we get furniture in. She gave us some gorgeous wallpaper options for the powder room and formal dining room and dark moody colors for the office and kids rooms. As a person who thought i liked neutrals the most, I never thought Id love the darker colors the best!

@function_first youre going to love them! im so glad we took the chance to do something different. post some photos when youre done!

Spectacular reno. I love the color you chose. Gorgeous transformation. I also like that you put in a hood. Do you love it? I bet it is a whole new way of cooking. Did you keep the sink and the faucet? I bet it all looks lovely. Enjoy your new space. Thanks for sharing this fun update.

I usually get into a serious depressive funk when I see good cabinet wood painted. BUT NOT HERE. Your color choice is awesome! And everything else I see in your kitchen flows into place. I love your kitchen!!!

This was very nicely done and the choice of color in Benjamin Moore Caldwell Green was great, it is really nice to see a kitchen with a color to it. Feels like your kitchen has a vibrant personality, the Subway white title is a nice choice as the pattern is simple and does not pull the attention away from the cabinets and their color. The color of the floors is also very well suited and ties the room nicely together.

@boxerpal we came from a newer house that had a hood so I was used to a proper gas stove and hood, it was quite challenging to use the electric while we waited on contractors, especially when half the burners and the oven stopped working! I was definitely so happy to have gas again and proper ventilation.

We kept the sink but switched to a more classic chrome faucet.

@jhoff86 which sheen of paint was used on the cabinets? We´re moving into a new (to us) home and want to have the cabinets painted. Thanks - your kitchen is gorgeous.

Interesting color choice for your cabinetry. It recalls kitchens of perhaps the 1890's to 1920's.

@Norwood Architects thanks, thats what we were going for, we used a lot of William Morris wallpaper in other rooms and combined it with a few mcm pieces, some traditional furniture, and focused a lot on texture (velvet, embroidery, tapestries, etc) throughout the house. Overall dark and moody in some rooms with lots of navys and darker greens like BM Herb Garden while keeping a light and neutral look in hallways and areas of low light. We really wanted to focus on preserving the overall characteristics of the house (a 1980s colonial in Marietta, GA) but play up some of its traditional aspects.

jhoff86, Love your kitchen! I would like to see the other rooms you are remodeling. I, too, have a center hall colonial home built in 1992. I like traditional design and color. Thanks!

Beautiful job. Love the cabinet color.

@sunnyd82 I am a big fan of the hood over the range. I cook a lot as well and hoods have the suction to pull all steam and smoke! I am short and have never liked microwaves over the range (had one) as I would have to take everything out to see if done/warm and the chance of spilling was high. Short people issues!! lol
