but im not sure whether you have more than one variety .. im going to have to ponder that ... maybe lack of coffee is the problem ... lol

whether or not you have anything that is valuable enough to name ... grow them to maturity ... and find out ...

until you name it.. it isnt a new cultivar .. right ... but then you throw in the word variety ... perhaps varietal is more proper..

since sheila is of unknown origin but is likely a hybrid of sieboldi type + something something

variety generally happens in nature and is true to type

you picked two very similar plants so the result is seedlings that are similar with slight variation

the streaking is from the mothers unstableness. and not a nuclear trait.

Well, I have nothing to add to all of that, in fact I don’t even understand all of that terminology——nuclear trait??? Really??? BUT, I do like both streakers…… now I will meed a fourth cup of coffee…… lol lol .

now that i had more coffee ... doesnt AS have white flower stalks..and do i remember its sterile ...and is that one reason you used it as a pollen parent ... oh and all that ploidy stuff .. just to throw something extra in for deb ....

Thanks all, I don't know all the proper terminology of variety, cultivar, species or whatever. I sure don't intend to create a new cultivar but will keep it for myself and name it 'Sheila Sweetheart' or Sweetheart Sheila. It's kind of a long story there but I'm having fun with it. This year I'll pick another named hosta to cross SM with.
