The only reason I can see to replace it is if you are unhappy with it. Are you? You can deal with the sticks by a) cutting them shorter b) growing something else to cover up the dying foliage.

Hasn't it produced any seedlings in ten years?

My columbine never really dies because it reseeds itself all over the yard and garden . . .

Thanks for your ideas. I was thinking that because the clump is so big, probably close to 2 ft wide, it's time to divide it at least. I may do that. Pictures are great but I always forget how to do it.
