Converting an old garden space

last modified: 5 years ago

I have a 24 x 24 (old veggie) garden space that has been covered with landscaping cloth and a thin layer of mulch for the last 2 seasons.

My hubby died and I wasn’t sure I wanted to give up the space so that’s what I did to “save” the space.

Now I think I would like to make it into a flower garden with annuals, perennials, maybe shrubs & an arbor. I don’t know where to start; in the middle, around the border? It sits out in the middle of the yard - mostly full sun and not “connected” to anything or other gardens. will that even look okay?!

I can remove the chicken wire fencing around it but can’t easily remove the 4 corner tall cedar posts, so they'll have to stay.

Any ideas or pictures of something similar would be so helpful! I’m zone 5a.

Thank you!
