Cool/cold dining table top options

I live in a 1920s craftsman bungalow with stained oak woodwork throughout. I feel so lucky to be blessed with this beautifully maintained woodwork, but I often run into the issue of wood overload.

I'm looking for suggestions of dining table top options that would pull in some cool materials to offset the warm wood wainscoting that surrounds the dining room. We want to avoid glass as we need something less delicate (my husband hates the noise of putting things down on a glass table).

So far I've thought of marble or concrete, but I wanted to see if anyone else had outside of the box suggestions for unique material ideas or upcycling options (we're in the middle of an expensive renovation and we're always open to getting thrifty!)

If your husband hates the noise of putting things down on a glass table, he probably would have the same reaction to marble or other stone--something to test before you commit.

Like Yayagal, I thought of a metal tabletop, though I was thinking zinc (I love copper but it doubles down on warm colors).

@cawaps @Yayagal I love the metal table ideas! The copper is gorgeous and would definitely match some original hardware we have throughout the house, but @cawaps I really love the zinc idea! The coolness kind of reminds me of some of the leaded windows we have in the house -- could be a great tie-in!

If you want to be really thrifty, find a table at a flea market and paint it. The metallic looking spray paints are really fun and you won't have to worry about clinking glasses or a hefty price tag.

Or you could take a wood table, put a table pad on it then "wrap it in fabric" so it's not really a table cloth but is still removeable to wash.

When the time come to invest in a forever table, you will have been able to save up

Outside the box? Tile. Get it custom made, pick your colors and style of tile. You could pick craftsman rathr than these

Glass is the worst- had a 'temporary' glass table in my last house for eight years...

We have a leathered granite dining table on a custom base outside- bullet proof and a natural material. If you found the right piece of stone you could get a base made locally or buy a base from somewhere like room and board. Not a cheap option but gets you a table that is unique and nearly impossible to damage.
