First bloom and chilly nights

Rocks Cry Out bloomed on the 15th and was having a hard time opening fully early. Our night temps have dropped significantly so today, again, the blooms on RCO had a hard time opening till much later in the day. We went from overnight lows in the 70's to 60's and this morning it was a chilly 46.

Happy to see today that I'm down to only 1 plant that hasn't showed any scapes yet. I'm hoping all the others that are scaping will hold off blooming till the night temps get a bit warmer. Interesting to see how these daylilies do here. I don't expect a lot of tall scapes or high bud counts but I am seeing a lot of scapes on each plant.Feeling a bit under the weather today so had a day of "rest".

Nice that you will get to see blooms this year. Rocks Cry Out looks pretty, I can understand why it would be having trouble opening. We had cooler temps here too, and a few were slower to open, but our lows were in 50

Rocks Cry Out is a good dependable one. I am surprised it had trouble opening, and suspect it will settle in.

It will be a different kind of season for you I am sure but it must begin with the first bloom! Glad your others are scaping as well. Feel better! You have a garden to plan and plant!

I remember chilly nights. Heat will soon arrive I'm sure and your daylilies will be glorious. Amazing you have so many scapes on your new plants..............Maryl

Thanks for the comments. This year is really about just getting the plants settled into their new location and how they will adapt. I'm surprised how many scapes are coming up. The cicadas are winding down thank goodness. Not completely gone but at least much less to deal with. Warmer temps coming back along with predicted storms tomorrow.

It's looking pretty good for 46 degree! Congrats on the begining of your season! Glad to hear the cicadas are winding down. We never got any, which is strange because 17 years ago there were swarms every day.
