I haven't bought them in years because I can never find out if they are affected by the mildew like impatiens walleriana.

It is my first walleriana impatiens since the onset of the widespread downy mildew infestation years back.

(I do buy the SunPatiens brand impatiens each year as they are very much mildew resistant).

So rouge, are the double ones walleriana as well? (Never thought of that lol - duh!) The thing with the SunPatiens is I could never figure out if they NEEDED more sun, or TOLERATED more sun. Gee, I have a lot of unanswered questions, don't I, haha? But seriously, will SunPatiens do well in full shade like regular impatiens, or do they *need* sun?

Hey Dee. I only use SunPatiens in shade locations. (They may be able to tolerate more sun than I think but I can't afford the water bill ;))

Rouge thanks, that's good to know. I still probably won't use them as generously as I used to use impatiens, because the SunPatiens are more expensive, but good to know they do well in shade if I want to put a pop of color there. Thank you!

I got a dark coral flowered double impatients. I don't know if it's PW or not, it was somewhat neglected when I got it so it's out of bloom at the moment but I do like them because they add an extra bit of excitement in the shade.

The same potted double impatiens, two months later:

I've a row of sunpatiens that stretches from about 5 hours 'bright' sun to nearly full shade.

The ones in the shade are half the size of the 'sun-one' and look much less vigorous. If I weren't so tired of digging, I'd move the two. Just can't pick up that shovel!
