This happens when dry spells and super-wet weather alternate. It happened to my Earth Angel this year, too. Next year, it may be pretty.

This tends to happen to the light margins and light centers, especially if the plant does not have thick leaves. It seems like the lighter colored areas are much more sensitive to variable hydration and heat stress. Sorry.

On the occassions I end up watering it, I water at the base. It seems like the issue is where leaves stay in contact after a downpour. So do I just let it be, or is there something I should spray it with? Or maybe move it.

I did move it this year. Only a few feet from where it has been the past 2 years, but it is getting a bit more sun. Mostly morning, but still more sun. Other than that, status quo.

so.. root interference.. and the result is the plants inability to pump enough water to the more tender [anything not green] tissue.. leading to melting out ...

the next set of leaves ought to be better able to cope since the roots will have settled by then ...

any part of the leaf unaffected.. processes sunlight into plant energy.. to grow the roots ... to grow the plant ... do not go cutting them all off ... at least until the next flush replaces them.. then you can neaten it up a bit ...

Oops, sorry. Didn’t make this clear, this guy is in a 30 gallon tub, so I moved it within its tub. The main reason I moved it was because the deer were getting bolder and got the hostas that were just a few feet from its old location. I decided it would be safer up against the house, beneath the window where the dogs sleep. The rock line in front of the new bed where it is now is basically a deer Maginot line, the dogs are close enough that it isnt worth crossing.

I will leave it be for now to see how he does.
