Raspberry Cream Twirl

This is really outside of the box for me. Super boring and conservative when it comes to the garden.

And yet….Dianela’s pictures of this rose kept pulling me back. Finally I broke down and bought it. Then everything I read talked about how it had no fragrance. The Kiss of Death around here. So TONS of second guessing. Too garish and no fragrance? What have I done?

Well guess what? I think I’m in infatuation, love is a definite possibility depending on how it climbs aaaaaaand, drumroll please……it’s fragrant!!!!

    Lovely! What's the fragrance like?

Just goes to show you, you never know how something will be in your garden. It is beautiful.

This has been on and off my list forever, too. No fragrance being a deal breaker. And what.... you say it's fragrant! How exciting! Now I may need to get it. Your photos are gorgeous.

Magpie, I am terrible at describing scents. What I can say is it’s not in the super rosy family-the ones that smell like that old fashioned rose lotion that came in the pink bottle?

Definitely more a fresh, sweet fragrance

you blooms are BEAUTIFUL 🥰. She is also lightly fragrant here and I dont have a good nose. I am so glad you gave her a chance.

Wow! Glad that you gave her a chance. It's fun to shake things up a bit.

I wish it wasn't a climber as I have no room but I think the colors are so striking.

Mine is in a somewhat hard to get to place, but now I'm going to have to climb up there and see if it has a scent.

GLORIOUS!!!! Oh SWOON!!! I can see why you fell in love with it!! I would want one too, if it weren't a climber. Heaven!!

Sheryl - awesome!! So beautiful!!!! You've done a great job with your berm area!

I saw Raspberry Cream Twirl in 3 gal on sale in Lowes for $15. I really want one but I really am short of space. I already have a Zephirine. But your pictures are too enticing. How is the disease resistance? I notice it is not mentioned anywhere. Thanks!

This is what it looks like in the fall, no spray

Hmmm, does anyone see pictures? i just have a question mark in a box

oursteelers: thanks for the pictures! With no spray it looks well in the fall. Maybe I can plant it side by side with Zephirine, who is still small and trained to climb the railing of the side porch , or with Graham Thomas on the other side. RCT seems too a good rose to miss

I went back to Lowes to get the Raspberry Cream Twirl rose and is was reduced to $7. So I ended up with 3 plants instead of 1. Now need to find home for them.

The tag mentions ”good disease resistance”, and ”better than average disease resistance”.

    You really scored!

I love how RCTs bloom's are quarterd sometimes. ♡

These little Tree Frogs adore RCT's blooms to the point that they will wait for the last petal to fall before jumping to the next blossom!

Sultry: Thank you very much! Your RCT blooms are breath taking! And the little frogs are so adorable.

Yeah I am extremely happy with the deal. I am pretty new at rose planting and most of the roses I bought this year were band size or bare foot and some still awaiting shipping. It is really nice to have some good size roses that will (hopefully) guarantee blooming next spring while waiting for the young ones to grow 🌹

I was very surprised by how much I liked RCT. It’s usually the subtle colors that really speak to me but when the deer wiped out her first flush I was so bummed

It doesnt have much fragrance for me here but I still like it.

    Our steelers,

    Deer are such buttheads!

Darn deer bit the top off my red grapefruit tree that I planted this spring. I'm so mad! They didnt touch any of the Dwarf Mulberry trees I planted. I'm gonna have to put T-posts and fencing around any trees that I plant here, I guess! The deer havent done a ton of damage to my roses yet. I'm sure they will be this winter once the other greenery dies back grr.

Sultry my RCT isn’t strongly fragrant but does have a light scent-very fresh smelling if I remember correctly.

I’m almost afraid to say this because I don’t want to jinx it but the deer have never bothered any of my plants in the winter. They usually start snacking in April

That's good know the deer might not eat everything this winter lol. We had deer at our old farm but it was closer to a big city and they stayed more on the outskirts of our property. Here, they just run all over the place except where the dogs are lol.

My 3 RCT roses are all blooming now. The flowers have a clear though mild fresh apple scent

The pair put at either side of pergola had their tops eaten by deers early spring and we had to put wires around. They have caught up and done good. They are facing south, with some tall trees hanging from north and west

I am so glad several of you have tried and liked this rose. She was in the first group of roses I bought from heirloom in 2016 when I started gardening. She is an excellent rose with beautiful blooms (I don’t normally like stripped roses). She does have a mild scent and is almost thornless which makes it one of the nicest roses to work with in the garden. I am currently growing her as a self standing bush against a fence and that works also. My other ones climbed to 11 feet.

With all the California rains, my garden has been having horrific black spot and Peach Leaf curl problems this year.

But Raspberry Cream Twirl seems to amazingly be resistant!

Here is a comparison of RCT and Princess Charlene de Monaco

Carla -- I think I have your same trellis in my veggie garden! Found mine at Costco. I have RCT in a partly shaded area, with the idea it will climb my arbor that frames the path along the side of my house to the backyard. But it's been very slow starting (1 gallon from Heirloom) -- but The Impressionist was planted about same time, also 1 gallon from Heirloom, and it has taken off this spring, so I'm hopeful that RCT will come along. If not, I may have to move it somewhere else. Not sure if it needs more sun, or it's just slow starting on its own roots. I also got peach leaf curl on my nectaplum (despite having sprayed with copper in Dec/Jan), and am getting some black spots. It is still very moist here, and drippy marine layer in morning. But RCT is looking good!

@Sheryl May 8a - any updated photos on your slope? It was looking pretty amazing!

Hi Deborah my RCT is 5 years old and it's barely 5 feet. Definitely a short climber.

And yes that's where I got my trellis!

@Deborah Z10 coastal  March in Germany was the wettest month in 30 years. We forgot what the sun even looked like. There is nothing picture worthy going on out there yet, except for Crepe Myrtle trying to take over.
