Some insect or some thing that is crawling all over my plants and leaving this residue (?)

it is not a slug trail I don’t think. It is more glittery, almost like mercury in a thermometer. And it doesn’t seem to be consistent with slug trails . And they aren’t usually around textured plants like verbena. It is either this or the heat or both is hitting my plants pretty hard. Any ideas?
