Matching Rugs in different rooms?

Gracie here is 12 and getting a little unsteady on her feet, and the hardwood we have in the foyer, dining room and kitchen isn't helping. I'm planning on getting rugs for those areas. The foyer leads directly into the dining room and the dining room leads to the kitchen. You won't be able to see all the rugs at once, but two will always be visible. Should I just get matching rugs for all three areas? I'll probably look for a ruggable that works. Have one already in the den that works nicely.

I use rugs both for decor and for my geriatric dog. As long as the colors compliment each other you can use different patterns thru out the house. Ex: I have some persian-type rugs that are a mix of rust, blues and other colors, so the washable blue & white rug that I have at the entry goes well with it. I use a lot of Costco washable rugs in doorways, the feeding station and anywhere my dog tends to get 'stuck'.

My dog is 16 and, like Nina, I have to keep his nails, and the hair between his toes, trimmed to keep him from slipping so much. There are also little booties available that have tacky bottoms. My sister put them on her elderly dog's hind feet and it really helped.

I also started using this and have seen my dog's mobility improve, his dandruff disappear, and his coat no longer has that dry feel. On days when he appears uncomfortable Galliprant has worked great, especially since my dog has a sensitive stomach to everything!

aww, she looks so sweet! i have sort of a conglomeration of large throw rugs in my room addition with the dog door, only 2 of them match, the rest are solid colors that compliment those. the floor is laminate and even though i keep their nails short, i worry about slip 'n' falls. i have great danes and injuries like acl tears are very expensive to fix.

are the ruggable rugs the ones that are machine washable? i've been wondering about those ever since i saw them advertised the first time. i'd go with all matching. :)

@Ninapearl, yes, the ruggables are the ones you can wash. They're kind of expensive (at least compared to big box store options) but I love the easy clean. The one I have I've only had to wash twice. I believe some people who wash more often have trouble with fraying, so if other old age issues develop, they might not last so long. They also aren't super plush, but if you're main concern is grip for pups, that no big deal either. One other piece of info....if you ever have to wash the base, it can take it awhile to settle back into normal shape after it dries.
Thanks for the suggestion to use all one pattern, I appreciate the advice.

thanks much for the info. they are definitely pricey but washable is a huge thing for me. i live on sand and vacuum the rugs almost every day because the dogs will track it in when it's wet from rain. might have to look into those further!

this is what i have now. got the 2 striped ones at home depot and they weren't terribly expensive and seem to be holding up well. i do have to keep a rubber-backed rug under the dog fountain because, well, drool! lol

I don't know about rugs but that is one sweet doggie. The rugs will help her walk.

Thanks for further suggestions. She does have quite a lot of hair between her toes, so maybe I should trim that up. She needs virtually no other grooming besides lots of combing in spring and the very occasional bath, so I never learned much about things like that other than nail clipping. She even still has silky soft puppy fur. She is such a sweetheart I hope that making the house a little safer will keep her with us for quite a few more years.

I’m having the same issue with my 14 year old boy. I took him to a new groomer and they didn’t trim the fur between his paw pads enough and it grew back before his next visit. I trimmed it and it totally helped. Now I’m being proactive looking for are rug ideas to prevent slipping as much as possible in the future. But I want the rugs to look good together.
