Thoughts/experience with Venmar Range Hoods

I just had a horrible experience with a KitchenAid range hood that was incompatible with my induction cooktop and will be replacing it. I'm considering a Venmar Chef 30" Wall Chimney Range Hood. I can't find any online reviews for the product and was hoping to hear from any Houzzers who have one or another Venmar model. The unit is also marketed under the Broan label (model VCS55036BSL).

FYI, the heat sensor in the KitchenAid wasn't able to detect heat from my induction cooktop, and would even shut off automatically in the middle of cooking. There's no way to disable the sensor. KitchenAid won't honor it as a warranty issue, and the retailer will only take it back with a hefty restocking fee.

A flat hood like the OP pic will never be as effective as a canopy-shaped hood at capturing effluent. That hood is also only 20” front-to-back, so it will not realy cover your front burners. 24” deep woukd be ideal; if that is too expensive, go no less than 22” deep front-to-back.

Idk what ”high-efficiency baffle filters” are. Are they truly baffle filters, or something else? You want baffle filters, and nothing gimmicky.

Should we assume that the KitchenAid hood has no way to be turned on manually such that it will stay on until being manually turned off?

Correct assumption. There is no way to bypass the heat sensor. Serious design flaw.

Appliance sales industry might not know all this stuff, but since a decade ago we have seen significant progress in residential make-up air equipment support, and Broan and some others are providing fan curves to allow estimation of actual air flow. In local support, there are now a number of forum members who have embraced the basic requirements for good kitchen ventilation and are willing to put their oars into new posters' threads.

Keep in mind that the residential product scope has some limitations that commercial systems do not. These include lower household envelope volume available for hoods, ducts, and other HVAC, lower noise requirements, higher aesthetic requirements, and acquisition cost generally dominating operational cost.

I had a venmar connaseuir (spelling?) hood for 18 years. I loved it. I'm in the market again. Unsure if they still make that or what options there are but venmar review wise LOVED the product.
