Yes and no. The sand will wash down through the gravel making it look a bit cleaner, but the gravel in the trench won't be rising to the top. So it depends on how thick your gravel layer was to start with and how deep the trench is. Just hose it down and top dress it with more gravel and all will be well.

We're talking a lot of stone. The trench is about 30 feet long.

Why don't you hose down the gravel and wash the Florida sand that is your dirt down into it and reassess the situation. Determine how many bags of gravel from the big box it will take to top dress 30 feet of trench. I'm thinking 10 bags or less.

I mulch my patio pots with pea gravel and rocks and usually end up with rain beating them into the potting soil so I don't think you will wash away all of the soil. Some may wash down into the loosen dirt where they dug. I'd say they should hose it and rake in more rocks if needed.
