I noticed in Zillow photos of newly built houses that exterior walls were painted a darker shade of whatever neutral was used on interior walls were in the same room. So standing in a living room, for example, the walls with windows were painted a medium taupe, and interior walls were a lighter taupe. Can someone explain this trend? How old is it? What is the purpose? Is it already out of style?
