I was feeling under the weather last week and he was cleaning out the family room and garage. He found a huge box of seeds that I've had for years. He asked me what I wanted him to do with it. I told him to put them in the garbage. I have a gazillion seeds in the fridge and most of those were the old ones I've had over the years, and some since 2000! I occasionally dip in there and plants some as experiments during late winter.

But really; I do way too much in planned planting! I usually have good germination rates considering, but I have so many seeds it's ridiculous. So I walked out of the room because I didn't want to watch.

Unbeknownst to me he went through the box and found the Blue Star morning glories in a huge manilla envelope. I used to be an obsessive seed collector and trader. He later told me he walked around my yard and 'sprinkled them everywhere!

With all the rain we've had, they are popping up everywhere! In my perennial beds, along the fences where I've planted all my new hydrangeas, roses, milkweeds, and ornamental grasses!

I really could just smack him! I've been sick with bronchitis and asthma from the high mold counts and I'm not supposed to be outdoors at this time! Oiyeee!

hope you fell better.. but i dont think killing him/her will make any difference... youll still have a lot of weeds to pull up.. when you feel better ... so you may as well use them via guilt.. to start pulling the weeds ...

and i hope you do ... feel better ...

besides.. all that work digging a hole to bury him out back.. you may as well just pull the weeds and skip all the digging ... lol

At least the morning glories are annuals! Enjoy the show this summer, pull all the plants in fall and then everything will be back to normal next season.

Hi gawdinfever,

Morning glories are invasive and quickly set viable seeds while the vines continue to grow. Most varieties of morning glories were classified as illegal noxious weeds in the state of Arizona until fairly recently. (that is a clickable link)

Your morning glories could be a potential problem, so don't underestimate their threat. It took me several years to get rid of just a few of them by yanking up the vines as soon as I saw a bloom.

Yeah, really, if one is going to go through all that trouble to dig a hole, one might as well plant a shrub or flower in it!

I wouldn't have minded if he asked me and I could have planted in a protected area to control the spread. I've spent the last four years trying to get rid of the invasive things. (Exactly, Zen Man!) We feed the birds and they and the wind carry and drop the seeds everywhere! It's been a battle to say the least. And while we all benefit from the garden, I'm the only one who does the weeding. When you're not feeling well, it's even more unwelcome.

At least I'm starting to feel better, the rain has stopped (even though it made so many seed germinate!), and the heat and humidity isn't as oppressive as it has been. My plans for first day back in the garden are weeding. At least alone, it will be peaceful! lol

Do you have a Dutch hoe? That’s the fastest way to eradicate a swathe of seedlings and you don’t even have to bend to do it.

At least he didn't sprinkle Four o'clocks! I love Morning Glory and they're easy to pull out, one at a time. :)

Ok. Took your advice. Planted two new Hydrangeas Pinky Winky! lol

I just noticed the morning glory seedling at the edge of the planting hole....I'll be pulling them forever!
