Love the looks of this! I know a lot of folks have found this one difficult to grow though I have seen photos of some nice ones. I have not yet tried it personally. Best wishes with it.

Good luck with it. The design looks darker on yours than on UTOG's. I wonder how the nurseries do that. If it is greenhouse grown, it could be in all day sun under shade (50%?) cloth that does the trick. Perhaps more shade than sun. Or maybe it has something to do with temperature, fertilizer, position of the planets. It may be tricky to give it the right amount of sun for the best pattern but still enough for good growth. Any experts out there?

Steve, could it just be that it is brand new to me……..received in good condition and in two weeks it will be burned from acclimating to my yard???? Whereas utog’s is an established plant? Also, she is in a mich warmer zone than me (5b Milwaukee) which maybe lightens the color???? OMG, all these questions……….you are right, any experts out there????

Well, I just knew it was something about the amount of light it was getting. It does look better in your shadow. Nice overcast morning after a night of rain here. Perfect for taking pictures. Until my camera apparently ran out of film. (I use my phone, it just stopped taking pictures. Guess I took too many).

Added this to my list (again) since I like both the reversion and sports on this one. I've heard it can be a little unstable. I actually tried to order Tomahawk twice, but to no avail. Guess it can be finicky too.

Utog, thanks for the information……..if mine starts to look bad, I will pot it and try to overwinter it. I was successful overwintering an Undulata Auero-Marginata. It was really an experiment to see if it would be successful or not. I almost forgot about it. I tipped the plastic pot on it’s side and covered it with a whole big bunch of leaves. I was presently surprised when I found it and it is still in the same pot!!!! lol…….lol

Debra, you can grow it in a pot in the ground, and then treat it like any other hosta. If you decide to do this, you dig a hole big enough for the pot, put the plant in potting media in the pot, and put the pot in the hole with the level of soil in the pot even the ground soil level. Just leave it how you have it now; it should be fine and happy.

Where did you get it? That one has been on my wishlist for some time! if it grows well for you then I’d hopeftlly have success too as I also live in Milwaukee :)

I bought it from Plants Delights Nursery. I paid $32 for it. Some think that is too much to spend, but I wanted it. :-)

That's 2/3rds less than a decent pair of pants and much less than a nice dress. I know you can't wear a hosta, but you don't have to worry about how it fits, either.
