I've had the Franke Orca stainless sink in 3 homes and I'm reluctant to do it a 4th time, but I've not found another design I like better than the Orca sink.

I love the ability to soak my sheet pan/fry pans flat on the bottom grid or tucked under the mid tier right sink grid while using the rest of my sink. I also use the right sink grid as a built in veggie colander while washing veggies. I don't use it as a dish drying rack so I can't speak to that functionality. YMMV.

@Julie K thanks, I saw that in the showroom and I wasn't a big fan of the shape but now that you've mentioned it I do think the shape is functional for what I'm looking for. Do you find with the Orca that the placement of the faucet makes it more difficult to use the sink to wash dishes while doing something on the right side (washing veggies, etc)?

Andrea, I don't find the faucet difficult to use at all! Since my faucet pivots/swings I can easily point the water stream wherever I want.

@Julie K that's cool, I didn't know they had those for residential! thank you for the link as well. I was looking to get a faucet with a wide arc so I can try to avoid water splashing from soapy dishes to the other side and glad it doesn't seem that it's an issue w/that style open basin!

I just got the kohler strive which has 2 bowls with a low divide. I cant wait to have it installed in my new kitchen.

I need the 2 bowl design as I often have soapy water to wash up things in one side while I am prepping food in the other side. No prep sink in my kitchen. I am also going with a positive reveal so i can get a cutting board or other ”parts” to fit and use it as a work station if i want. I realize its not a single bowl like you want but i feel with the different size bowls the faucet would not be on the divider.

@Kim Weaver I absolutely love that sink. I'm currently using a high divide sink and it honestly drives me crazy but I think the low divide would eliminate the issue I have now. The only thing I am curious about (and maybe you've used one before and have feedback?) is whether or not the low divide is good with baking sheets? We use a LOT of baking sheets and I want to be able to easily put these in the sink. I'm not sure how it would be with a low divide.

Andrea-Hi. Did you decide on a sink yet? I am looking pretty much for the same things. I need an under mount and can find almost everything I want (stainless steel, one basin, workstation, 16 or 18 gauge, small radius) but not with 2 tiers for the workstation. I may have to give that up to satisfy my other requirements. Wondering if you made a selection?

@Kim White I ended up buying the Franke Pescara and returning the Elkay Crosstown Workstation, which I really did love except for the location of the drying rack. My mom is a designer and she advised me to focus on functionality as all the smaller things (16/18 gauge, corner radius, etc.) would not be on my mind once I wasn't comparing the sinks side by side and we had it installed. As our sink is in our island and we have seating at our island I did NOT want to have counter level, the Pescara sink allows us to hide the drying and that to me is worth compromising on the rest. If you don't mind having it at counter level then I would absolutely go with the Elkay as it's a really beautiful sink and the accessories are also beautiful. (We bought both and compared and in terms of beauty Elkay takes the cake but functionality...Franke). Hope that helps somewhat!

Andrea-Thank you so much for this information! I might not have thought about the height of the drying rack but now that you’ve pointed it out, I would love the drying dishes to be lower! I constantly have dishes out drying on a towel on my counter right now and I hate the way it looks. I’m going to consider both of these sinks and appreciate your help. @Kim White no problem! we are living in another house for a little bit and honestly using the sink here is what drove my decision so clearly. I am loving having dishes off of the counter but I am hating the double basin. The one I'm using is a Franke and it's a great sink even at 19 years old. If you do go with this just want to also mention that Franke does sell a roll mat for dish drying...while I plan to have my dishes drying at the half height ledge when we have parties and I'm cleaning up afterward I am planning to buy and use the roll mat as well to double my drying space. With the other style workstation sinks this really isn't an option (except with the kolher prolific but I've heard bad things about the zero radius back/front part).

We are not doing our kitchen remodel until October (the wait is killing me) but I’m going to consider this Franke sink for sure. I love that you have put so much thought into your decision….I definitely think the sink and faucet are one of the most used things in a house! And also, I agree with you about the zero radius….we have an outdoor kitchen space with a small zero radius sink….being outside I’m sure you can imagine how much gunk gets caught in the corners!

@Kim White I went to the showroom again to look at faucets to go w/the sink and took a few other pictures. I could only really find stock photos online so hoping this may give you a better idea of the sink itself as it helped me. I was playing around with different racks/accessories to see how I'd use them for dish drying on a regular day and a party cleanup. Anyway, hope it helps.

@Kim White you're correct it is the Franke Pescara! (link below for the actual model). I did pick the Brizo Odin Kichen faucet. It's actually in the second photo - I went with a polished nickel in order to tie in the more bronze color cabinet pulls and the stainless of the appliances together and I did a wood handle to integrate the walnut cabinets into the island where the sink will be. The other faucet pictured is a Franke in polished chrome.

@Elaine Carey actually, the finish of the Franke sinks is a little "darker" than many others that we looked at. It is brushed stainless but it's got a good weight to it. I will send pics once it's in to see what it looks like in our space but I feel like it's a medium brightness (definitely not as bright as others like the Elkay).

Hi @Andrea, I have been shopping for a large sink too for my 36 inch base cabinet. I want all the same things you listed and wanted to keep the dishes from view and wondered if the dish drain rack placed on the middle ledge works well for you? How does it actually work? How do you like the sink? Any regrets or recommendations? Do you like the bottom heavy grid? Do you really need it? I am interested in the colander and roll up steel mat too. Thank you for any advise.

It's in and I am loving it! Here are pictures...please keep in mind they're real photos, I didn't setup a picture perfect environment as I wanted you to see what it looks like in real like when it's being used (keep in mind I didn't clean for you and we're still under construction aka the hot mess elsewhere!). I did take a picture where it's half "dried" and half left with water - I'm not one who actually dries my sink but I know some people do so I posted a picture (last with the cloth and brush) to show it both ways. Also, it holds a decent amount of dishes if you do them regularly but if not then you'll need a second layer or to put them out of the sink on the counter. When it's split in half you can fit a few dirty dishes on the other side. I took a photo which also shows what it looks like from the other side when sitting at the island so you can see how well it hides the dishes. I don't find that the water splashes the clean water AT ALL when I'm cleaning dishes and already have some on the drying rack. Honestly, I'm more than happy that I chose this and have zero regrets! I do have the roll out mat that goes over the sink (rests on the counter) but I haven't needed to use it yet; however, unless you only put shallow things on the rack in the sink then larger cups and stuff will keep you from being able to use the roll out rack. So, if you're considering that accessory just be aware. Lastly, I do find the sink deep, not too deep that it bothers my back or anything (I'm 5'5" and I have a standard counter height) but if you are shorter or much taller you may want to test it out in a store first or raise your counter height a little. Please, ask questions if you have any or if you want any more photos. Hopefully this helps. Oh - I have a nickel faucet (our hardware is brass so we wanted to tie it all together with the mixed metals of the appliances) so just keep that in mind if you're looking at the "coloring" of the stainless that it isn't going to match!

@Andrea, It's beautiful!! I've been debating between Pescara and the prolific, leaning Prolific and now you have changed my mind again. The wire rack inside does work and I can hand my dish rag in there! lol. I hear the prolific scratches and the salesman told me all SS scratches. How is your sink holding up regarding scratches? I love the shine and the 20 mm radius looks good, not as rounded as I thought. Did you purchase separately the sink stopper? Draining ok? Is that the Brizo brushed SS? I know you said nickel but it was listed as SS. Your pictures are so helpful. I would love to see more as you fill it. thank you so much!

@rosaserai I'll tell you what made me pick Pescara over Prolific - the corners. I read that the Prolific can be a pain to clean and I knew that having to have a little brush to get food out of the seams would drive me crazy. I have a very contemporary kitchen so I was very against round corners but the Pescara's are not rounded enough to bother me and they're a breeze to clean! Also, I like that the Franke had metal accessories and the rack is wider than Kohler's and I need that for dishes.

As for scratching, we haven't had it too long but I haven't had any issues. I think with the brighter stainless steels (Kohler, Kraus, etc.) you'll see them more. I honestly don't care, I use bartenders friend when my last sink would get scratches and most came out. It creates a patina as well and after a little while you aren't going to notice them like you would when they're new anyway.

So, our sink is stainless steel but our faucet is a polished nickel and has the wooden handle. It looks gold on the website but in reality it's a true nickel and not very yellow.

@Elaine Carey @rosaserai Here's a couple pics of "scratches". The first is an up close of scratches (I had to literally dry the sink and look for them) and the second photo is a little closer than what standing distance would be. So, as you can see you can't really see the scratches we have accumulated without specifically looking for them. So, while I don't mind scratches, I'm happy to report that the ones this sink has achieved so far are not very easily standing out!

The other thing I forgot to comment on was the ability for the sink to clear. I always just throw the food into the sink so we constantly have cheerios, strawberry tops, banana peels, etc. just thrown in and all over the bottom of the sink. I've always been able to use the sprayer to let the water push the food down toward the drain. I think once I had to help the food along but that doesn't seem abnormal to me. I have no issues with lighter or non-sticky foods just flowing right down toward the drain. I do usually spray water on the right side (behind the drying rack) when I'm done washing dishes to push anything that's under the drying rack to the drain and haven't really needed to go fishing for anything. Out of all the sinks I've had this one "drains" the best and I've had other Franke sinks, Blanco, Kohler, etc.

One more thing I wanted to comment on as to why we went with this over the Kohler Prolific. I went and tapped on a LOT of ss sinks and I HATE the tinney sound that a lot of them make. There's a HUGE difference in the sound pads that sinks come with and I HATE when sinks either vibrate with the garbage disposal, pop with hot water or in general when you're cleaning you can hear the sink. Our last sink really made no noise and I was unsure if we would get that again especially when I started to test sinks and realized how much of a variation there was on sound dampening. I can report that I'm thrilled with this sink in terms of the sound dampening. Maybe this isn't a big deal to you but it was to me and I 100% am happy with this sink.

@rosaserai I did the same thing and bought it well ahead of time. I don't think you'll regret it. I've been really happy with it so far. Everytime I finish cleaning up I'm amazed at how well this drains without more effort than using the faucet to flow water from the sides of the sink and I LOVE not having dishes on the counter. I will say I do use Bartender's Friend every few days and it keeps it looking like new though. I've never loved a sink more. Good luck with your project, I can't wait to see it!

@Andrea UPS came late at night with the delivery. The sink is beautiful. And it says Swiss made. But..... the lip was dented! Do you think it can be used or should I return it? Amazon! 🤦🏻‍♀️

By "lip" do you mean the flange? If the sink is undermounted you won't see the flange. Bend it back with a rag and a pair of Channellock pliers. I do it all the time.

@rosaserai I agree with him, I don't think it will matter because you'll never see it and it's usually sealed off anyway. Our first one came in like that too but it had other issues as well so we returned it, so I don't think this is uncommon. If you want a 100% answer you could always call your plumber and text them a pic to have them confirm since they'll be the one installing it (or maybe you will be, idk). Enjoy the project!

Quick question: I want the bottom of the sink to be wide enough to put my large baking sheets completely flat for washing. They are 15 x 22. The specs on the Franke website show 31 " internal length and 17" internal width. So theoretically it should be fine. HOWEVER, I am wondering if the "bump out" for the grid makes the internal dimensions smaller. In other words, am I going to be able to lower a 15 x 22 inch pan into the sink(i.e. get it past the grid) and have it lay flat on the bottom to wash it? Thanks! Elaine

@Elaine Carey You will be able to fit them! If I measure the sink on the inside of the bump/shelf it's exactly 16". Here's a picture - please ignore the contents of the fish tank my husband is currently cleaning in it when I snapped the photo for you :) I haven't found anything yet that won't fit! I'll also say we have beat it up (we had a plumbing issue and for a few days we had standing water with tomatoes, etc. in them and it washed like new and I don't have any really noticeable scratches either. Can't say enough that's good about this sink!

Hi Sunshyne! Sorry to bother you again. I ordered a Pescara to look at since no stores around here have one in stock. Question: How is cleaning the drain area? It looks like there are multiple levels for gunk to build up in---the round part of the drain, the square area around it, etc. It looks like it could be a total pain. Do you use one of the square drain covers? It looks like there is one that is solid metal and one with holes. Also different question: Can the bottom grid rest on the mid-level shelf or does that only work with the smaller grid? Thanks again for all your help!! Elaine

@Elaine Carey Hi, not bothering me at all, happy to help you out here! So, the square part is a slight angle down so very easy to keep clean, I just wipe it when I wipe the bottom of the sink - but we do have a garbage disposal so maybe that makes it easier? Nothing really has a spot to build up gunk anywhere in the sink, there are no tight edges/corners! We didn't get the drain cover because of the garbage disposal and the fact that I cannot stand when things get stuck in strainers, etc it grosses me out beyond belief. I'm sure that makes it "prettier" though. As for the grid, we only bought the mid-shelf one for draining dishes, again because of my aversion to things gunking up on/in the bottom sink grids. Here's a photo of the drain area closer up, the "white" you see around the disposal is actually the adhesive the plumber used, I'd say just make sure you wipe any extra if you have that issue, before it dries. Now I always see that and it bothers me, but at least I know it's just adhesive.
