How do I select the right white paint shade?

I want to paint my room white, but don’t want my leather sofa to look darker or too white. How do I select the right shade so it all blends seamlessly?

Color match the sofa or choose a color for the walls not white I happen to like the dark wall in that space

IMO the white walls will not work with the white leather sofa. Your sofa is cream. Your shutters are bright white. You can select a light greige and that could work in the room. You'll get far more light reflection if that is your goal.

there are shades between beige and white if you still want something brighter. but I agree with Beverly, pick something that's darker than your couch. once you've compared sample strips to your couch, pick a few sample paints and paint big swatches on that wall. look at it different times of day to gauge how it changes morning, afternoon and night.

or if you really want off-white, get a new couch.

    Hello!

Depends on your goal - whether you want to blend the sofa or highlight it. It`s in trend color block, when you put the furniture and the wall the same color.

How to choose the right shade.

    1. I suppose, you could bring home some samples of white and off-white colors (as bigger in quantity and size as better).

    2. Then compare all the shades one after another in different day time, natural and artificial lighting.

    3. Choose the shades. Buy a small tin of paint and try it on the wall. Assess it a couple of days.

    4. If you like it, paint all the rest wall or continue choosing. Try different brands.

Also I would change the rug for bigger one, add some bright accessories and color points. You have only two orange cushions in the room which are not support in anything else. Not necessary the same shade, but something of warm palette.

on second thought, white walls could work with that couch, but I think the accent wall here helps:

this room looks like it was painted with just a drop of blue grey:

That seems like a difficult task. The sofa and the lampshade aren't the same but the seem ok. If the goal is to make the room lighter , then do the lightest shade of what's on the wall now so there is the slightest contrast. Otherwise, bring some swatches home and pick 3 or 4 whites, get sample bottles and paint out some big pieces of posterboard and hang them behind the couch to see what you think.

    Good luck!

Thank you all for your opinions, I appreciate your input.

Debbi, I am taking your advice and am going with a lighter shade of what is currently on the wall. The samples I have chosen have far more light reflection and will brighten the room which was my goal.
