How can I jazz up this basement kitchen??

We're close to being done with the basement, but the kitchenette is looking kind of bland. I realize everythign looks bland when it's drywalled, but I'm regretting not having it bump out more into the room to be more snazzy. The idea is to add a wood treatment to the beam, add a simple bar top and stools, base cabinets along the back with some floating shelves.

Main issues: should we bump the bar wall out to make it stand out more against the long flat adjacent wall, or would the bar top create good enough division to create a "kitchen space". Should we add more of a soffit along the top to help with this? Just curious how others would make any changes here before its too late.

What is your issue right now I see nothing in the space so maybe post some of the choices you are thinking about.

I updated the post with my main concerns. Just hoping for any insight if we should adjust the structural layout to create more of a "space" by moving the bar wall out, or adding ceiling soffits.

I wouldn't' make any structural changes, something like a snazzy ceiling would do the trick. Colorful tile print, tin or copper sheeting. It would demarcate the space and draw the eye.

I wouldn't bump out the bar wall more unless you need more working space within the kitchen. The countertop overhang will break up the flat design you're seeing right now. Are you planning on a waterfall edge like your first inspiration photo? That will add a ton of modern interest.

I wasn't necessarily set on the waterfall edge like you mentioned, but maybe that would work well to add some dimension. I wonder if our 42" high bar would still look good with that treatment? Thanks for your input!
