I recently saw a beautiful cat up for adoption and I really waffled, on one hand I'd love another but Bud likes being an only child.

i've had giant dogs for so many years with all of them being couch potatoes/lap dogs, i just don't think of them as being so big even though they definitely are!!

i've always had really great luck any time i've introduced a new dog to the house. eden is especially tolerant and that comes from the fact that she has never been an "only" dog in the house. when we lost olivia a few months ago and eden was left with just me, she became very depressed, hardly ate and spent most of her time just sleeping. enter pippin and all of that changed! i knew when pip was away that eden would need another canine companion and leona fit the bill perfectly. eden is back to her happy self. :)

when pip is ready to come home, leona will go back to my girlfriend where she had been since being surrendered. she already told me that she will most likely keep her as she fit in well with her pack of saint bernards.

i have mixed feelings about keeping her. wolfhounds have a very short life span, usually don't make it much past 7-8 years old. leona, while she comes from a good breeder who just got overwhelmed with having too many dogs, is most definitely a senior. having lost 3 of my danes in 2020, and with eden just turning 8 years old, my heart just isn't ready to take on another elderly dog.

I would be a foster fail also! I'm so glad you're taking care of her. She'll be on her way to a great life!

i have always found that introducing dogs on neutral territory always leads to harmony when we return to the home place. this method has never failed with me. to be sure, i always feel a little angst but i have never one single time had any problems. :)

leona is like goldilocks with the 3 bears, trying out aaaall the beds (pet camera view). LOL

Ive learned a bit about irish wolfhounds in the last 2 years. i adopted wolfhound-lab mix brothers. they are not as big as full wolfhounds. they are both yellow / white but one has lab fur and the other has wolfie fur. they play wildly outside but are calm indoors.

how wonderful that you are able to short term care for a large dog.

I have such a soft spot for well behaved large dogs, these look like such sweeties. Lucky you.

And, no toleration at all for yappy, out of control ill behaved dogs. Especially small ones.

I think the excuse I've often heard, that small dogs and terriers are inherently high energy or can get out of control is bogus. We have a friend who got an untrained two year old, out of control, chihuahua that was a mess to be around. After nearly a year of patient, loving training, you'd think that dog was a trained lab or shepherd guide dog. A loving and wonderful dog to be around.

”Foster fail” is a new term to me - I like it. Today my son starts volunteering at the animal shelter where we got our dog ten years ago. I told my wife she’s not allowed to drive him there. Ever. She’d be a transportation fail.

Some Irish Wolfhounds do have longer lifespans. One in the neighborhood lived to be past 12 although by then as many olders become was blind and deaf. Her nose worked very well until about three months before she died. She turned up missing when her owner went to let her back in. Thinking her baby had been stolen as some had tried in the past she called the police. They were already looking for the owner of the wolfhound who had shown up at a donut shop about a quarter of a mile away. Before anyone complains about her calling police rather than animal control she sat on various boards and had been subject to threats of all kinds.

The furbaby would come woof at us as we walked our dogs past her large outdoor area.

I love wolfhounds! They’re so homely they’re sweet faced 🥰 Wh When DD was in high school she had a friend whose family had an Irish wolfhound. DD (who doesn’t like large dogs) thought she was ugly, but I thought she was lovable.
