She's growing up! Mine tend to get bigger the happier it is and the more light it gets. And it's growing season. It's beautiful!

The mulberry family (Moraceae), of which Ficus is a member, is somewhat unique in that members of the family are genetically programmed such that each successive leaf on any given branch will be larger than all preceding leaves on that branch.

All branching plants, when exposed to increasing photo-loads, will grow smaller leaves and shorter internodes, so bright light = smaller leaves. Small leaves combined with shorter internodes makes for a fuller and more compact plant. Using fertilizers that do not contain urea and derive most of their nitrogen from nitrate sources also promotes smaller leaves and shorter internodes.

also.. you probably bought a newly rooted plant .. and it has now grown a more mature root mass .. which of course you couldnt see ... so it is now putting out more mature leaves ...

straight down pic are rather wonky ... we cant see whats going on ... and in this case ... if the roots have matured ... and perhaps filled a smallish sale pot.. it might be time to tip it out of the pot.. and look at the roots.. and decide about repotting to the next pot size ...

you dont have to repot immediately .. but at least you will have a better idea whats going on with the roots ...

and .. lol ... it rarely a problem.. when your plants start exceeding expectations .. it usually means your are doing it right ... dont go looking for problems.. because you are doing too good ..

When it comes to growing things, looking for problems is not a sin. If it was it would surely be a venial sin. If growers can be obligated to their plants, it is right to say their only obligations are to look for/ identify their plants' problems and resolve them. We can all do better for the green things we nurture so long as we harbor the desire and willingness to make the effort.
