Does the landing have another door to the outside or to the garage where you need the more water/dirt/mud friendly characteristics of tile? I think either option is valid. I'd be inclined to do the same material as the stairs unless there's another door to the outside there. If there's another door to the outside, tile might make more sense.

Thanks, I think Im leaning that way too. That door is just a half bathroom. I think having it the same wood as the rest of the house on the landing and steps would be good. My biggest worry is too many types of flooring.
