You will get better answers if you post a floor plan with measurements. Include the width of the openings, the window. the built-ins and fireplace.

I think it would look good with the two chairs facing a loveseat (or two more chairs) centered on the fireplace. A round coffee table right in front of the fireplace. An area rug under the seating area.

You could put a streamlined desk right behind the sofa, so you face the room and the window.

Would you consider putting the picture on this wall? Use Command strip hangers so you don't have to nail into the wall treatment.

I am not a fan of word art. I think you can do better; get more like the large one.

Keep the surface of the built-ins free of clutter. Put a few statement pieces instead. You might want to add a large potted plant that does well indoors with little light. Don't put any thing on the fireplace. I like its clean lines.

Should I use patterned rugs or plain?

I'm thinking of placing the desk on the side of the room where the blank wall has the painting on the floor. It will face the conversation area. That will be the office space. Now need rug, curtain, decor, styling suggestions to make the space look cohesive. It seems there are too many colors on the surfaces of the walls... blue (built ins), tan and cream( fireplace) , grey, and black(doors and wall).

I was thinking I shouldn't do a white desk since that'll introduce yet another color on a wall). The photos you all sent looks so much more cohesive than my room. Still want to keep it as sleek as possible. How do I get that look?

Also, do you think a traditional desk will look good in the space? What about a modern looking one? I need lots of desk space for work.

I'm open to all suggestions.

I like the sconces. Maybe they can be added to the wall the will have the desk. But wanted a gallery wall there too.... so many thoughts!! 😀

I'd get rid of the bedroom style chest between the chairs and put the little blue pouf out front of them for now with a small tray on top for your tea/wine. A large rug that pulls out the colors of the art is a must. Lean into the gold to counter the cold of the dark blue. You might find this coffee table interesting for storage and it is smaller scale to use with the chairs. It is a nesting table.

Get a really great Turkish or Persian-style rug that picks up the blue but has other colors like green and red in it too. Pull the seating away from the wall and flank the chairs on either side of the fireplace with a coffee table in the middle. If you can fit four chairs, that would be ideal.

Would you consider repainting the walls the same color as the fireplace? I think it will warm the room up. I definitely think a pattern rog would look good.
