Picture Decor Help

Hi,

I recently moved to a different apartment and I am unsure if my pictures will work or not. I am moving stuff around, but sort of just placed them areas for the meantime. There are three main areas I want some input on. The three areas are the wall space around my tv and fireplace, the wall space behind my counter height table, the wall space near my front door where my console table is. For reference, the walls are all 9 feet high. The dimensions of each wall space and picture are on the photos. What would you do with these areas? Bigger picture in them? Smaller picture in them? No picture? Leave it blank? Move them somewhere else? Doesn't work with my stuff? These are just some questions I came up with, but feel free to give me any info you like. Also, the horizontal gold drip picture is one I tried two locations in since I thought that maybe in its original location it looks too small. I thought I heard online you should have a picture take up 60-70% of the wall space which would mean this picture should maybe be about 72 inches or so on that wall behind my counter height table.

I do prefer more transitional and traditional interiors. I understand I have a mix of different styles, but I have never been too crazy about more modern designs. I have seen the gallery wall idea, but don't plan to do that. I am in my mid 20's and am no expert with this stuff. Most of my inpsiration came from looking at houses on Zillow.

Thanks!

I think it's possible you are hanging all your art too high in the room.

I would turn the mirror vertically to take advantage of the height you have in the room.

I didn’t even think of turning the mirror. Thank you for that tip!

Congratulations on the beautiful apartment! Before the art goes up, some furniture placement tweaking is needed. There should only be one grouping of furniture in the entryway. The photo above looks like you’re trying to decide between two different options…one traditional and the other modern. So lose the bench/art above. If you really want seating in the entryway, a small accent chair on one or both sides of the console could be added. With regard to the living room area…is there another chair available for the right side of the fireplace? If not, I’d move the chair/side table to the right corner, keeping the tree in that corner. THEN, I’d arrange a grouping to the left of the fireplace using the two square artworks and the plant next to the fridge…with the plant closer to the fireplace, the 36” artwork to its left and a little higher, and the 32” artwork straddling both above. The largest artwork looks good on the wall behind the dining table…might be better shifted a bit to the left. Perhaps the bench could find a home in your bedroom at the foot of your bed?

Thank you Susan! great tips. Over in the corner where you would place the chair and table is where I have my rocking chair (too comfy and commonly used to get rid of). Since this rocks and reclines it is hard to find space for it since it needs to be out from a wall. I felt that spot was best, but I don’t know. I also added a photo of the area by the front door. It isn’t a more normal entryway since my apartment is sort of rectangle shaped. I also dont have another accent chair for the fireplace. I am not sure if this changes anything. These are all great tips and ones I never thought of! I am not the greatest with figuring out this stuff.

Since you seem open to suggestions, here are some more! The candlesticks on the fireplace give it an altar-like vibe. Better to place them together with one a bit higher on a small book or two on the corner of a dresser or chest. The white vase of branches on the console is not needed, just angle the blue and white lidded jars beside/in front of the lower left corner of the mirror. Something with a low profile like a silver tray, potted plant, or a bunch of flowers below the mirror would be a nice touch. Since there seems to be a coat closet in the entryway, the coat rack seems unnecessary there…maybe it could find a new home in your bedroom. That floor space could then be used for your shoes that are left at the door so they’re out of the way. An upright plastic trash bin under the kitchen sink would be a better option than the trash can out in the open next to your living room. Ok that’s all I’ve got for now! You’re welcome!
