I hate to be the proverbial wet blanket, but nurseries need to be functional. In blunt honesty, you're going to be way too tired to give 2 shizzles about how it looks once you come home. Function and safety will be your primary concern. I would split the cribs up (to minimize their disturbing each other) and put them on either side of the window, putting the long dresser under the window. The mirror is nice, but not necessary, so maybe it could be changed out for a floor length behind the door, if you still want one. Get a comfy arm chair, preferably a rocker (oh, duh - you have one, lol), and keep a swing next to it for whichever one you can't hold at the moment. Focus on the changing station. You need a cushion with waterproof pad, mutiple covers for it, safety strap - especially with twins, as you'll literally be juggling them. Add bins - lots of bins for holding and organizing diapers and other things. Two hampers - one for wet, yucky stuff and another for dry. And, here's where I ruin it for you... Lose the crib pillows, et al and the tree. No tree. You might tell yourself you'll take it out before they can grab it, but you'll forget and they will get into it before you can blink. Nothing in the crib that isn't tied down. You can make use of musical soothers and little toys that are strapped onto the rails. Once they're toddlers, then you can add in the toys & books and make it fun. It'll be over before you know it, so charish all of it while you can!

yes to a rug, you and Dad will be laying on the floor too.

and if you have time, change out the ceiling fan/light to something INTERESTING.

I'd paint the window walls or paper with a story time scene.

You are going to be spending ALOT of time in there. need something to look at and talk about. This is their first classroom. SECURE all the furniture to the walls. Congratulations!

I say no to the rug, I can only imagine tripping on it in the middle of the night when you’re a zombie…especially with 2! I love the mirror, but where is the changing table?

I think it’s cute as it is and ones the babies are there you will be given stuffed animals, toys, books etc that will go on the shelves and dresser.

@Therese N has great ideas. I'd add a lamp or some sort of soft lighting at your changing station. You don't want to be flicking the over head one on at 2am to change a diaper. And possibly black out curtains. My girl had no problem with a bit of light but my boy did.

Wipe warmer is also a nice thing to have. Seems silly but also easy to get them out. With 2 I'd for sure buy one.

Get a changing pad and put it on your lowboy dresser. We did this (on an IKEA Hemnes) and it worked wonderfully. Save one drawer for changing stuff.

Agree to lose the mirror, especially if you put your changing pad there. Instead maybe wall decals or something like that (can't be removed by baby and is cute). Or something to go with your sunshine/rainbows theme. Or nothing if you prefer.

Agree to split the cribs.

I would also lose the tree as grabby hands will pull that over in an instant.

No curtains on a window reachable from the crib, but yes to curtains on the other (if you want).

I disagree about changing the light fixture. Babies are supposed to be sleeping in there, not be entertained.

Also ditch all the bedding except for crib sheets because it's all pretty much useless. By the time it's safe for a pillow and blanket they'll be out of the crib.

We got picture ledge shelves from IKEA and put then behind the door (and LOW on the wall). We put all of the baby books on those. It worked great, especially once they can grab books themselves, it puts them in reach (and it's better for babies/toddlers to see book covers, not the spine).

I think a rug would be cute and add some color, and also could protect your carpet from vomit or poop which always manages to get on something nice. Just make sure it is soft to lay on with bare skin. I had a rug in my OD's nursery and nobody ever tripped on it. I guess we pick up our feet when we walk?

I also hung some curtains, but in hindsight I think a roller or roman shade would have been better. For one, I would not have worried about her ripping it down, but also being long they kind of blocked the wall under the window and made it unusable. Even a stylish valance in fun material would add a little spark. There are many easy how-to's online.

Do you have specific colors of crib sheets or crib skirt? As mine got older we made a shallow drawer to hold toys that slid under the crib and the crib skirt helped hide that. and made a fun place for her to crawl under and hide as well.

I think you've done a good job so far! wipe warmers and the like are kind of a "to each their own" type of thing. I think the cribs next to each other like that is a good position to start off with twins. You can always (and probably will) adapt the room as they grow.

@aziline So, this gummy bear nightlight is the best thing I had for those MOTN feedings/diaper changes. It's a battery powered nightlight in red (the best color light for nighttime wakings as it's not stimulating). Squeeze the belly to turn it on. Our local new mom parenting group recommends it to new moms. I got it shortly after LO was born and OMG it's amazing. Never turned on any other light, and this made sure I could get from our room to baby's room without tripping over anything in our room as well. I'd just carry it with me. BEST. EVER. I got mine on amazon. Stupid amount of money but worth every penny.

ETA: Well, if there was a MOTN blowout I'd usually need a bit more light, but for your average change, it worked great :)

All this isn’t necessary. And the cribs against the wall may work better for you functionality wise. But just some thoughts.

I would not put a rug over carpet. And no to the drapes as well. I would move the cribs to the opposite wall, away from the window. When they get big enough to pull up and stand, the cord on the blinds is a hazard. Are you planning to use the dresser top as a changing table? You will want a small lamp near the chair that can be set on a very dim setting, without shining in the babies eyes down by your arms.

We have a friend with twins. Their room is very functional. The beds are separate and parallel. There is a small couch in between. The mom finds it easier to handle them when they’re both crying and hungry. Plus she can lay one down and still talk to him while she nurses the other. She can also hold both while on the couch. Harder to do in a chair. There is a fun mural (peel and stick, totally removable) on the wall opposite the parallel cribs so they can see it when they stand up. You room looks bigger, so you probably can add a small sofa and use the dresser as the changing table too. Congratulations on the new little ones! Twins are a hoot.

Kind of boring IMO Do not add curtains or rug. Get a fun lively peel & stick design for the walls. Get the pillows, etc out of the crib. I agree a loveseat would be better than the chair. Separate the cribs.

I'm going to be "that guy" and tell you to ditch any window treatments (like those blinds) with cords. Cordless black out shades, in case one or both children turn out to be light sleepers who need a dark room to completely crash and stay asleep. I would move the dresser, without the mirror, under the high window and top it with a changing pad, but you'll need to secure it somehow and strap down its occupant as well.. Rid yourself of the tree and put a small loveseat under the other window, its nice to be facing the door when you're in there. You want to see when dad or others drop by. Stand the cubby cabinet vertically right of the closet.. You might have room for the rocker to float angled there by it and the dresser. Put the two cribs side by side on the current dresser wall with just enough space to stand between them and attend to each baby in turn. This way you'll also have a good view of them from the door so you don't always have to go in, to check on them. They will soon be turning and will be happier if they can see each other.
