Gutters are my nemesis, so the first thing that pop into my mind is all the gutters you'll need in the small space.

Anyway to your question. How about putting a mirror behind the window?

Check to see if painting the window glass will potentially void your window warranty. I would think about having some stained glass panels cut to fit.

Thank you both

Get the window tinted.

Can you “open” the dormer so that it provides light in the foyer? In other words, look at making it a real dormer.

I would use the mirror window film, mine has been in place for 2 years...South facing...no problems with it staying on.

If you search "fake window dormer" on Houzz there are about 20 threads covering it, all the answers above plus some more.

What do the building plans say to do ? Surely they should address your problem.

The dormer shouldn’t exist if it has no function. Too bad it can’t be open into the ceiling to be a clerestory window to allow more light into the interior.

Frosted-translucent film on he inside of the window. still would provide light in the attic for when someone needs to be up there.

Thanks, all, for the advice. We are going with a film.
