looks fine to me..

let it near dry between waterings .... to avoid rotting the rots like they did at the store ...

if it gets too dry.. it will wilt a bit.. but then you will now it needs water ... perhaps count the days.. so you can understand how long your mix takes to dry out ...

i dont understand why you used a mix of part wet.. and part dry media... but it appears to have worked .. and i sure hope you used media.. and not garden soil ...

I think you did your best. The ZZ likes to dry completely before watering again. I water mine about once a month.

Don't be surprised if it grows some little stems with only a few leaves on them before it grows any of the longer fronds. The little stems with few leaves, much like that one on the far left, help to feed the rhizome so it can gain energy to produce the larger fronds.

The root formation is a tuber. They can get surprisingly big, and if they run out of room and are smushed against each other or the sides of a pot, rotting can easily occur, especially if combined with putting one in a really dim spot. I think your plant will appreciate your efforts. A tuber pic:
