I actually really like gray for the siding color. It goes well with the pretty bright green of the plants.

Remove the small tree in the middle - it's cutting the house in half. The yard art at the light post should also go.

Morristodo, I agree. My hesitation is that it's a really healthy dogwood and I feel bad to get rid of it. Too costly to transplant. It might come to removal, though. My MIL thinks it would be okay of we cut it way back. Any other opinions?

I would start by beefing up the porch posts.

Your initial suggestions are a good start.

I would also suggest bulking up the skinny white pillars. You can box them in to make them wider and it will look like they're more part of the architecture of the house, rather than little sticks required to hold up the porch roof.

Also, consider painting the brick the same color as the house, whatever color you go with. Right now, the house looks chopped in half horizontally, especially the left side. You want to unify it.

The front door is very dark and set back under the overhang. If your budget allows, consider replacing the overhang with one that is angled to show the door more and echo the roof angle.

The windows are very plain. Consider adding shutters or faux panes.

I would leave the big dogwood. A beautiful tree like that adds value to your home as long as it isn't damaging walkways or the foundation. I would trim it up - cut the few lower branches so the lowest branches are at or above the roof line.

I thought you'd enjoy this discussion because the home here has a similar look to it and poor John went crazy trying to select a grey. Having said that, a soft grey with a brighter white trim would look great with the brick work.

What you have is lovely, I just was having fun spending your money. It's a lot more fun than spending mine! Congratulations. Take your time, enjoy the process, that's where most of the fun is.

The siding is white cedar shingles dipped in bleaching oil. They will go to a weathered grey color then stay like that. The purpose is to make sure ther wether evenly to a silvery grey.

Would rework the walkway. It looks too long and would get rid of the plantings on the both sides. A little overgrown and hides the walkway.
