Do you mean that door off to the right is the main entry door? The giant shrubs in the area of the original front door offer a hiding place for a would-be thief to break in. Trim the big shrubs, clean up the other planting areas. If you want to keep the right-side door as the entry, clear the pathway to it.

So confusing - i can barely make out or see either door in the pictures. The peaked roof over door on left clues me in to what you're describing. Can you remove the peak & straighten the roof out over the unused door? And, paint the unused front door the same color as house so it fades into background. Remove the house numbers from old door & place them at new door. Remove the plantings that block view of new door. in other words, do everything possible to emphasize new door & deemphasize old door. Best thing though is to remove old door & stucco or place siding over it, sounds like turning old door into a window not an option. Can you remove stairs & railing from old door? put a railing at new door.

Wow. Thanks for your responses so far. we are having those larger steps and railings removed and are taking out the cedar bush, so it will be less cluttered. a new step is being built. New stucco is going to be a slate blue. I love all your opinions. Such great suggestions. sorry the pic isn’t better.

I’m hoping removal of the large trees too close to the house are in the plan. They are blocking any potential light plus, as was said, it’s a great place for an intruder to hide. Try posting better photos so we can see how you’re planning to remove the unused door and make that portion of the house look like it was never there.

Remove some shrubs and prune others so that their tops are a foot below the window sills and there's a foot of open space between wall and shrub. The extra space is need for air circulation and for the painters to do their work. Prune the trees so their lowest branches are 8 feet above the ground. Then post some new photos. It'll be much easier to see what can be done with the house entrances.

I need to actually see the doors so remove that horrible overgrowth and then take some pics.

Everything about the placement of this front door, from the peak above, it's location in the center of the home, and most importantly it is on the portion of the wall that sites it closer to the street verses the addition which is set back, all clearly identify it as the best location for a front door entry. Have you considered reworking the interior to re-establish this as a main entrance? Curb appeal may have more value in the long run than a pantry in the kitchen.
