But it’s hard to find good landscaping designers that I think will charge A lot more than bacqyard. But pls let me know if you go first lol

We are starting the process with them now! Have our first designer consult on Tuesday. After looking into things, I do think this is a great way to go. Good luck finding a local contractor to do all of this the way Bacqyard would do it and not charge you even more. And you may feel obligated or "stuck" to use the contractor that does all of that. With Bacqyard, they can help me vet a contractor or I can find one of my own, which I have an eye on a few locally. Excited to see how it goes.

We used them for our yard. There was some frustration over the timeline, as we were trying to finish everything before winter, but the company really stands behind their product, and we got close to everything we wanted in the end, and I decided to do the rest myself. We didn’t find a contractor through them, but found our own and add in the process of getting it all installed now :)

Steven - If you aren’t in a hurry, I think it’s a great cost effective option. Our property is I think a little large for what they expect (~1/3acre), and we got probably 3/4 of what we were looking for, I’m not sure if I’d use them again, but it did work out for us this time.

We didn’t receive a design for one of our side yards like we asked. They gave us someone else to talk to, but by then I had a rough idea of what I wanted on my own and ended up just figuring it out on my own

Following -- I'm planning to call them this week!

For those who have used Bacqyard - how accurate did you find their models and/or how easy were they to work with on revisions? After a very promising consultation sales pitch, we signed up for a whole yard package for our acreage property. We just received our first round design, but the design is totally unusable! It doesn't represent the slope, scale or planting zone of our home. For example, they designed a modern multilevel pool surround with steps, massive retaining walls and sunken fire pit when we requested a traditional rectangle pool surrounded by pavers and grass in our relatively flat backyard. They also included southwestern/desert plants when we are located in the Pacific Northwest and specifically requested native plants. We basically need a complete redo and I'm very concerned about the process moving forward!

I hired baqyard for my property last year. I had a similar situation happen as Allison @allison_magill mentioned above. I specifically explained to the designer what I wanted but what I received was different than was I asked for. The pergola was not where I wanted it, the pool was not the size I wanted. The location of the items were not as I wanted them. I was extremely frustrated, having waited 3+ weeks. I emailed customer service and they immediately matched me with a new designer.

After a few days I received a revised design from the new designer and it was still not where I wanted the items placed! At this point I wanted a refund, I was so frustated. I scheduled a follow up call with my designer before I asked for a refund.

After the call with the designer, I felt much better about both designs I received. I wanted things placed in certain locations but the designers were correct not to listen to me. The size of pool I wanted would blow through my entire budget. The type of pergola I wanted placed where I wanted it would kill the natural lighting going into my living room, and many other reasons I won’t bore you with.

I would recommend scheduling a call with your designer to explain design decisions. If you feel your designer is not a good match you can request to be matched with another designer for your revision.

At the end of the process, I loved both designs! Hope this helps!

I would also like to update the community on my experiences with Bacqyard. We chose to do the whole yard package and filled out there questionnaire with inspirational pictures. We got really excited about the whole process and couldn't wait to hear from the designer.

We had the initial conversations and talked about what we liked and didn't like with the existing property and also about the inspirational images we provided.

After that we got the first revision and it didn't include many of the items we talked about and was just a image of the existing property. I made edits to the images and we had a call with the designer. it went well and i think we got the ideas down that we were looking for. (Props to Bacqyard here since they didnt count this as my first revision) (you only get one...)

So then a while later we got the updated design from them and it was just as i sketched out, there were no design options from there landscape designers, there was no creative content from them. It was just literally what I corrected on the original work.

At this point I realized I had to do my best on my own to make the backyard function as best I could ( I never thought about asking for a refund like the last poster did). it took me some more time to make the proper revision to the hardscape and get the areas to flow together, but I expected this from the design firm. I am not a landscape designer.

I finally put together a 2nd revision and sent this over, we had another chat with the designer and i was happy with what the yard was looking like (on my design)

Got the final drawing package and on that i got to see the full yard. This is important...up to this point they send images of the model not the drawing, so i saw some errors and wanted them cleaned up, nothing major just things that where never shown in previous discussions and for this they asked me to spend another $300 for a new revision. I could not believe this.

So be careful, if you know what you want or have some ideas, its possible to get them on paper. If you are expecting a new design, from a landscape designer i think you will be disappointed.

At the end of the day, it was a lot of work on our end to have something that we came up with. I am extremely disappointed in the design work from Bacqard and would not work with them again.

A very unpleasant experience. We ended up with 3 revisions over 7 months. I basically just stopped trying to work with them because the design was so uninspired and so far from what we were asking for. I asked for a water feature to mask road noise where we entertain, they stuck a fountain at the back end of the yard - nowhere near the house or any entertainment area. I asked for native plants. My design included almost all plants that were considered ”invasive” to ”VERY invasive” eg. african iris (we live in California). I asked for old world, I got cookie cutter modern. I had their contractor come out to bid the work after I gave up on their revisions and he told me their drawings were not scaled correctly. Put the money towards doing it yourself or hiring a real designer. I wish I would have.

Just a FYI, but African iris - Dietes species - are NOT considered an invasive species in California.....or anywhere else in the US. In fact, it is something of a CA garden staple!! A local designer would know this as well.

btw, non-native does not translate to invasive. Californians grow all manner of non-native plants in their gardens without issue.

Just letting everyone know that Bacqyard hires students as designers from various countries and doesn't properly pay them. I know a designer who was a regular designer for them, at the end of the contract, Bacqyard didn't pay the wage for 5 projects! They behave shady and don't respond when their end of profit is done.

Durbin09, did they not pay them because of some dispute or the client didn't pay? Or do they have a cashflow problem? The student piece would explain so of the issues listed above but wouldn't you notice you were working with a student when you meet with them via zoom?

I purchased a package to take advantage of their labor day sale. I had my call with my designer, so far so good. I can't speak for others but I live in Florida and was matched with a Florida designer. We had a video call to start the project and have a follow up call scheduled to review the first version of the design on Wednesday. I will share my design when we finalize it and the build. So excited! :)

I had my info call today. Looking at doing multiple properties. Kind of scared because it is a big investment. They said that the designers are from your state and have masters degrees in landscape architecture. Wondering if they got better as the company grew? I do worry about getting a basic rendering the first time and then being duped into paying for more. Any updates on how your projects went for those who considered them? Thanks!

A few months ago, I gave their services a try and ended up working with Mark. I'm based in Maryland and was a tad worried about how the communication would go, but turns out, it was smooth sailing. I could reach Mark easily, whether it was via video call, phone, or email.

We began with an intro call that ran for about 45 minutes. We chatted about the nitty-gritty of the project, my hopes for the backyard, and did a virtual tour of the property using Zoom. Mark was really attentive and asked a bunch of questions.

Roughly three weeks in, I received the first draft, which included the 3D visuals. They gave me the choice of either scheduling a follow-up call with Mark or just leaving my feedback notes on the platform. Initially, I thought the call was going to cost extra, but it was actually included in the package, which was a pleasant surprise! Who would pass up on a free chance to chat with a designer again, right? So, I booked that follow-up call.

During a screen-sharing call, Mark took his time to go over the entire design, explaining the reasoning behind certain choices. I gave my two cents and we agreed on the changes that had to be made.

Around a week later, I got the revised 3D visuals, as we had discussed. After giving the design a thumbs up, I got the final design files a few days after. These files included 3D renderings, installation plans with dimensions, planting plan, material list, lighting plan, a shopping list for furniture and accessories.

Overall, the whole process was great thanks to Mark, and in the end, I was happy with the result. There was one glitch - I had a bit of a hard time uploading the property photos to their platform. But their customer service team sorted out the issue quickly. They gave me other options for getting my stuff over to the design team. So, a little advice to anyone at bacqyard reading this, a bit of an upgrade in that area might be worth considering. Apart from that small snag, I had a pretty solid experience. Pretty solid product for the price. Thanks, guys!

I was told that they will match me with a designer from my state (California), Just had our first design consultation meeting. After asking this designer a few times about his location, it turns out that he is based in east coast or that is what I was led to believe. My confidence level is already down at this point. Also, I have no idea who I was speaking with as this person didn't turn on his camera. All his communication was based on first name. Real people have a first and last name. For all that I know, I could have been chatting with a bot. This is frustrating as I paid for their premium package. I would have gone with shrubhub had I known this would be my expereince

I can give you a better product at about half the price.

I had the worst experience with them. They overpromise and under deliver to say the least.

For example ' unlimited revisions and expedited designs time' -- since they don't deliver something for at least 3 weeks, its next to impossible to get a revision... and I'm not sure who does the 'revision' - definitely seems outsourced to some other place and not with the 'designer.' And good luck ever getting ahold of your designer... they take days and days to respond to an email with a slough of excuses like 'went to spam' or ''laptop died and i lost everything'

The Wrong CADs were delivered and even mislabled wrong. They just want money, and have terrible communication and follow through. Couldn't even get money back for something we don't even want... BE WEARY!!!

I finished with them a few weeks ago. I bought the package during a sale and I was happy with what I received. All the designers in my area (that I liked) were completely booked so I went with the online option. It helped to be able to talk to someone pretty quickly.

Overall, I think it’s worth it if you get it on a sale, otherwise i think all these online design companies are quite expensive.

I have been looking at their website. The price is okay, somewhat inthe middle compared to the other online companies. Main hesitation is if I will have the opportunity to speak to a designer or do they make you communicate online via like a chat thing? I used an online company for interior design before and I liked it but did not like all online chat no direct communication part.

I know what I want, I just need help visualizing it and bit of guidance.

Hi fors43. Yes, I did get to speak with a designer. After filling out their questionnaire, uploading property photos, and linking my Pinterest and Houzz boards, I was given the option to select a designer.

They showed me three designer options in my dashboard that I could select from.

You can review the past designs they've worked on and all that.

After I selected Annette, the next step was to schedule a video call. During the call Annette asked very good questions and had great ideas. I was asked to step outside and walk around the property while on video with her.

After I received the first version of the design, I was given the option to schedule a follow-up with Annette. Got on that follow up call and requested a few changes.

Got my final, and here we are.

Please understand, I am only talking from my personal experience.

It was a pretty easy process for me. If I were to use them again (which I might for the front yard), I would select another designer, not because I did not like Annette (she was lovely!), but I just wonder what a different designer would have recommended.

Some coworkers and I want to try it. We will start on it and review it, I'll share my experience here for anyone still following.

Hi all! We locked in our order from bacqyard in January before the spring rush. Same experience as post above we got three designer options, selected Karolyn. Super happy with the design. I think this is a great affordable option if you want to run your ideas by a designer, and be able to visualize your design with the 3D. Customer service was great, good experience for me.

I finished up with them and the overall experience was good. I was given some designer options and we ended up picking Glenn from the list that they had available after reviewing his portfolio. I think we made a great choice. He was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the process you could tell he'd been doing this for many years. Anyway, we got our plan and submitted it to the hoa It came back without any problems. We opted out of the installation because our builder was going to take care of that part. I can't revieww that part of the services but for the design part it was excellent. I'm truly glad that they were able to bring it to life because I literally gave them nothing to work with. I really had no idea what to do with the space, so it was a great experience for me.
