How about taking down the kitchen lighting contraptions. Then take down the dining room one as well. Things will appear cleaner. Your problem is however not just the lighting: you have a MILLION vertical lines staring you in the face. Your love affair with your wooden lined chairs spills over and repeats in the kitchen. In essence you’ve incarcerated yourself; no wonder you’re depressed about it. So you should probably look for solid colored (light) upholstered chairs on amazon or elsewhere. Spray them with fabric guard then give yourself a rest!

What bothers the eye is a cluttered feel. Take all the kid clutter from the space, take another picture.

The stools need NOT match dining chairs. .....and the slats are in combination, too many. You need a cocktail table, ........and the family room rug color seems a bit unfortunate and dreary. More of the kitchen hardwood and a generous area rug, would be better.

You asked on pendants. The options are limitless, but it is quite hard to suggest with no clue as to what you even like. .........and those would determine you light over the table.

The looming shade in the family room isn't helping, either. : )

Couch needs help............

Thank you these are great! We’ve had the matching chairs and stools for years from our old house… I never noticed it made too many vertical lines 😆. The couch does need help….we would like to replace the drum in the living room but it is a huge fixture… a fan would help with air flow in the summer but I’m not sure how attractive it would be

A simple white fan is fine. Truth is...........that height is not a great source for light unless decorative. A fan is not that, it is FUNCTION first, and best when it matches ceiling. The outsized sofa limits your space for side tables, and LAMPS.

RL relocation where did you find these globe ones? I agree about the mission vs contemporary… I think I lean more mission style in general but I really like these options
