If you post a picture of one you saw online and liked maybe someone can share their technique.

Here are a couple of pictures The look I would like to achieve. From what I recall, they both involve dry brushing about three colors.

The second photo has a slate gray base with robin's egg blue. Since I don't want to paint the dark brown oak top so wasn't sure this the dark gray b would work.

I have a friend who creates beautiful antique furniture out of garage sale finds. This is an old stereo console that she spray painted and then applied a mixture of mineral spirits (I think) to thin tube oil paint like burnt umber. She just paints it on and wipes it off. I forgot about this. Maybe I've just answered my own question! Still not sure I can achieve the same look as the chalk paint but it sure is a lot easier.
