Replace it. It looks fairly obvious but more importantly, it's plain that you it bothers you, so certainly have them do it over.

You don't want to continually peer at it and think, 'I should've replaced it because it doesn't match'. We only live once and might as well have a minor work of art that you're pleased with?

In your photo at least it looks like a pretty good seam. Are you unhappy with the color of the epoxy or the match of the two slabs?

That's an excellent seam. They are fabricators, not magicians. They do need improvement however. In the "screening-out-overly-picky-customers" department.

It looks great in the pic taken from a few feet away. In the close-up, the seam is excellent, but I see what you are saying about the pattern looking different. But really, with this kind of Quartz, with that kind of pattern, there is no getting around the difference when you have an angled corner like you have that requires the 2 pieces of Quartz. This should have been explained to you from the getgo. But I don't see a fix for it, other than you buying 2 new slabs, and examining the 2 to make sure they match identically, which is a very difficult thing given this type of Quartz pattern.

I think that after you have lived with the kitchen you won't notice this anymore. When things are brand new, and not yet moved-into, everything looks glaring.

Thank you for the replies. My issue isn’t with the veins not matching or the seam itself. I am asking about the color mismatch between the two pieces. We saw a preview of the seams (pictures) and approved it but assumed the base color of the two slabs would match. The color difference was not evident in the preview at all.

The right piece is bright white and the left piece is much more grey. That’s the only issue I’m asking for advice on :)

What did you approve? Did you look at both pieces before install?

We were only given pictures to approve and that was for the veins at the seams. The pictures were CAD like drawings that didn’t reflect accurate coloring. We assumed (incorrectly) that the base coloring for the two slab pieces would match. I completely understand that matching the veins is difficult but I would think that the base color of the slab should at the very least match! The mismatch color of the slabs is my only issue here.

In hind sight we should have insisted in seeing the slabs in person.

Have you indicated it’s a problem? I think you can ask them to come out and see what they say? What type of project is this?

Call the vendor. I can see it faintly now that I know what to look for but unless it’s far more obvious in person they will say it’s ‘within tolerance’

WestCoast Hopeful, Hallett & Co, we just had them installed yesterday and alerted our contractor immediately upon noticing. He will come out to assess on Monday and then follow up with the slab folks. Let’s see what they say.

Did you choose both slabs at the same time ? IMO this is a dye lot difference which tells me the slabs came from at least 2 different batches, These are man made and every batch can be a bit diferent

Patricia, no we didn’t. We were given pictures of the slabs to approve the seam for the veins. These pictures didn’t show color disparity. As mentioned above, we should have insisted on seeing the slabs in person instead of assuming the colors would obviously match.

On second look, I can see what you're talking about. They should have color matched the slabs.

That would bother me every day. The color difference is quite noticeable.

since you had to buy two slabs, would have been nice if they gave you the option of book-matched slabs.

As an example, this is quartz bookmatched slabs.

at the very least, they should have done two slabs from identical dye lots.
And, attempted to line up veining, even if they aren't identical

I wouldn't accept it.

And yes, ALWAYS view the slabs you purchase in person.

they did fine with lining them up, but if they're from different lots, that's poor service!

@yaszafarm Demand near perfection, especially as it's easy to attain in this case. Two years ago our custom house was finished and every item that we conceded to the GC about quality workmanship is an issue we still regret.

Steve, thank you for your comments and advice. I agree. Not asking for a fix would always haunt us every time we would see that mismatch! Our contractor agreed the job was subpar and is working to get it replaced. Such a waste. If only they had taken one minute to check the color match. Lesson learned - always insist on in-person approval of slabs!

@yaszafarm what happened with your countertop? Did they replace it and fix the color mismatch? I’m having a similar issue with my calacatta laza countertop and wondering what i should do.

Yes they did replace it without any arguments! They matched it beautifully the second time around. Don’t hesitate in bringing it up with your contractor otherwise you will always regret it. Plus these slabs are not cheap!
