Adorable! I got one on clearance last week. I hadn't had a Nemesia for about 25 yrs. It's still alive so apparently it tolerates high temps & humidity well. I put it in the ground the day after I got it.

Love nemesia! I am in temperate bay area. Have some that I planted 3 years ago, and they just keep going. I cut back finished flower stems regularly, and couple of times a year cute out stems that have died. In another few weeks they have refreshed! Takes a bit longer in winter, but they do return. I now have several colors. AND cuttings from them do well, stuck into potting mix and watered regularly, after a month to 6 weeks they have roots enough to be planted. All that I have get at least a bit of shade for part of the day, sometimes from nearby taller plants, some from position in yard.

I need to eat some words here. I have realized that the plant I got is Persian violet, Exacum affine, not Nemesia. It has definitely been too long since I didn't even notice the difference. I'm going to be looking for Nemesia in the spring. I am glad to hear about it taking root so easily. I don't think Nemesia can survive winter here, but it would be fun to play with until Jack Frost shows up.

This Exacum affine takes root easily. This is after about 10 days in water.

I've grown nemesia in the past, not so much for the flowers but for the fragrance, it really is a lovely scent.

I’m just starting in the annuals game, but if I ever see that nemesia in stores, it will come home with me, it's very cute! :)

btw rouge, I love your idea of randomly picking a couple of annuals every year. I’ll do the same thing next year.

This summer, I went to an annuals nursery, it was amazing. And best of all, it’s only a 2 minute drive from here! I was late in preparing my garden beds and only went when they were one week away from closing for the season. Their selection was still really good, so I brought back lots of verbena bonariensis, rudbeckias, dianthus and a purple foliage plant that I forget what it was. All at 50% off!

Very pretty, I never considered them because of their rating as cool season annual and our cool season (not cold, not hot) is weeks long (three if we're lucky).

Thanks @dbarron. I guess ignorance is bliss i.e. I never realized that nemesia is rated as a "cool season" annual. We have experienced a low rain humid summer this year (so far).

I always knew that pansies are cool season annuals but I wanted to see more details re such plants.

And just googling I see that alyssum and petunias are in that same category! And yet both of these plants are staples in our location for the entire summer...year after year.

Not so much here. I do remember as a child having years where petunias would linger, but usually they dwindle quickly (please note I haven't grown petunia in 20 or 30 years now).

It's not so much that petunias dwindle, they bloom themselves out. If you trim them come mid-summer, it tidies them up and you'll be rewarded neater plants and more blooms. Not talking about the waves here -- talking about the multiflora types.

I have had a couple of these (a pale pink and a purple one) for over a decade. They gently seed about, filling a large pot and gaps in the paving. They come into flower early, and bloom for months, with the occasional haircut. I don't grow many of these slightly tender bedding plants but nemesia is totally effortless with a modest charm. Always a delight.

Rosa, what zone are you in? My clearance Nemesia was fun to have over winter, but cooked to death a while ago.

I am in Z8-9, I guess. Tender plants often do much better in the dry eastern half of the UK, especially with good drainage, so nemesias have proved to be a modest but reliable little summer filler, with few demands, apart from a mid-season haircut.

It does look scraggily but I am impressed with how long it keeps blooming...well into November. @dbarron first mentioned that it was a "cool weather" plant and I see that for sure.

UPDATE (September 2023):

Our one and only nemesia this season, plunked in a small pot but placed in considerable shade and even now, in late September it is still showing lots of fleurs.

(I will definitely use nemesia next year for a shade spot or shade container)

This singleton nemesia has been alone in this pot all summer and it has been the hottest most humid summer in many seasons and yet it has more than held its own in the full sun location.
