Shingle Color Selection

Re-Roofing and need help in picking out a shingle color. I was thinking a Charcoal or Brownish Color. Attached is a photo of the existing house and close up of the stones.

I had looked at Certainteed Landmark Charcoal Black as it did not seem as dark black, but now I don't see that shingle anywhere. Not sure if they stopped making it due to Covid or what.

Also tried the visualization tools from Owen Corning, GAF and Certainteed.

I would choose something more monochromatic. From the pics, weatherwood and black seem the most monochromatic, but that may not be the case IRL. I would also put the actual shingle next to the actual stone and make sure that the shingle color is represented in the stone.

Stay away from the ones that look speckled due to the mix of shades in them. They are too busy with your busy stone. Also stay clear of those with red tones and black; it's too harsh. Weatherwood looks best in your photos. See if you can get a large sample to throw up on the roof and to see beside the stone to help decide. You might eliminate the black and speckled ones and put this up as a poll for people to vote on. That could narrow it down for you and then you could pick up large samples to bring home (if they have) and see with your house, different lighting, weather, etc.

GAF Barkwood, OC Teak, LM WeatherWood, LM Resawn Shake are my top picks. I really like Resawn Shake with your stone.

I think GAF Black and OC Oxy Black look good on your house. I would consider them, if you don't get intense sun.

A definite no to OC Brownwood, OC Estate Grey and OC Weather Wood.

Get your roofing contractor to put two or three large samples, about 3' by 3', on your roof before you make the final choice. My contractor did and it really helped.
