@stupidlazydog CT zone 5b/6a Those look really good! Are those the ones you got from UPT? My fastest would my mathilde. My slowest (I call it the Sloth) is my kerrii. Its been 11 months and finally got a new leaf.

Those are the ones I got from UPT. The vitellinoides is also doing well, just not growing quite as impressively fast :-) All the plants I've gotten from them are beautiful, and I really like that they grow them in coco chips, since the mix I use is largely coco chips. Makes it easier :-)

My slowest growers are erythina Bajo and pubicalyx Philippine Black. The erythrina I got as a bonus cutting last September. It rooted quickly, but just sits there. It did grow one small new leaf in the spring, but has gone back to just sitting there. At least it doesn't take up much space.

The Phillipine Black I got a couple of years ago. Every now and then it would start to get new leaves, but they wouldn't develop correctly and would eventually fall off. I got sick of this, so I decided to chop it into two cuttings and re-root them. Time will tell. I did just get a big cutting from a different grower. It'll be interesting to see if that does any better.

SLD - I have a kerrii that is cut from the same cloth as yours. It just sits there, slurping up sunshine, warmth and nutrients, and yet not one tiny millimeter of growth in over a year! Rocks grow quicker! 🤣

Hi everyone! My fastest growing hoyas are linearis, bella, Australis, and curtisii. My slowest are also new plants that are trying to establish themselves- fungii, a NoID, and thomsonii, among others.

Fergus - liniaris and cutisii? What's your secret? My cutisii barely grows at all and I have never had any luck whatsoever with linearis. How do you grow your?

Bill M. I do nothing special. They both are both kept indoors and sprayed weekly with orchid spray. The linearis is kept slighty moist, and the curtisii is watered before it completely dries out. I got them both in 4” or 6” plastic pots- I think that’s why they’ve been so easy to maintain. The curtisii is almost neglected, and I’ve traded cuttings of the linearis twice since May and the vines have all grown back.

Thank you Fergus. I've given up on linearis but maybe I should have kept them more moist. Unfortunately, every clipping I've tried to root has failed. Maybe in the spring I'll purchase a small plant and see if I'll have better luck with an already established plant.

I just went outside to check on an australis I planted in a 10" or so hanging basket in late April or May some time. It was the one that I mentioned at the start of this discussion. It has not only grown up the pot hanger, an additional extension hanger, but has attached itself to the tree it's hanging in. From a tiny cutting it has grown over 7+ feet tall and there are leaves everywhere along the two vines! I've done nothing to it. Just dappled sunlight, shade and rain when we have it. I swear this plant is the one that grew in the Jack in the Bean Stalk fable! It's growth rate is phenomenal! In another month or so I suspect the vines will reach well over 10 feet! I will need to get a ladder and pry all the little roots from the tree bark as I do not want to cut it but rather wrap it around itself somehow and bring it in for the winter. I am truly amazed at the growth. If I can figure out how to post a video on here I would show you the size of this monster. I wish my other hoyas would grow at the same rate, but then again, where would I put them? I've never seen plants grow this quickly. Some days I'll check it and mark the location of the end of the vine, and the next morning they are at least two inches taller! I just hope when it comes in it's not too shocked , which I'm sure it will be. Now if only it'll produce some peduncles....

Tika, that started out as a few inch cutting just a few months ago. I have another cutting from the same plant, same size, which was placed in my GH at the same time this was placed outside. Sort of a controlled experiment. The GH one is maybe 1/5th the size of this one. I guess that says something about how they grow in their natural environment. Getting it off the tree is going to be a bear!

Bill made us a video! That's fantastic. I agree about Australis. It is a fast grower and I refer to it as promiscuous. It will grow around anything in its path.

Thought I'd give an update concerning my Australis which is hanging outside under a tree. This is a couple of weeks growth. I can't get over how quickly it has grown. I can't imagine what these plants must do in their natural habitat. Makes one wonder why they're so expensive when they grow like Jack in the Bean Stalk plants every day!

It has now wrapped twice around the trunk, and peduncles are beginning to form. Gonna be a bear to remove it and it definitely will not be happy!
