WHAT ARE THEY fig tree has small black seed looking things on LEAVES

Help has anyone came up or truely found out what these are??? i have a brown turkey fig tree thatsthat’s very dear to me, it was my moms and she adored it and had since passed away and i would be broken if i lost this fig tree…..i dont have any idea what these little black seed Looking things are aand they are randomly all over the leaves of this potted Fig Tree. The Fig tree was looking gorgeous with all new leaves popping in every where and getting nice and bushy, i go out and i first saw a few here and there, then i started checking and more and more, i would rub my finger over it and they are like sorta stuck to the leafs but you could scrape them off nail or something, So i started picking the leaves that had a lot of them on it and throw them away, but other leaves would get them, and some of the leaves ONES WITH NO SEED LOOKING THINGS ON THEM are randomly getting yellow and brown looking and kinda burnt crumbling edges like, so i would pick all the leaves that were damaged off …..ITS DRIVING ME NUTS TO KNOW WHAT THESE ARE, guess i will spray something on it

B2G, You neither smash nor pop scale off a plant. They need to be either gently scraped or scrubbed off. I have used a Q-Tip dipped in Alcohol. The alcohol actually will kill the scale, but won't cause them to fall off. I've heard of folks using a sponge to get them off, but I've never tried that. Try googling scale removal; there might be more information and a tutorial.

Looks like scale. Do a search on controlling scale on figs.

So i started picking the leaves

==>> just stop picking live working green leaves off the plant.. how is it going to convert light into energy.. if you denude it ...

do you eat the figs?? .. if not.. the appropriate systemic product can rid you of this problem... otherwise.. scale can be very hard to eradicate ...

and of course.. if you do eat them .... then you dont want to use a systemic protect ....

and you will spray the appropriately researched product to avoid further harm ... do the research .. dawn dish DETERGENT will do further harm ...

and finally.. with all precious heirloom plants.. your first job is usually to propagate a second one ... so if something happens to one.. you have the other ... though in this case.. it being a named variety ... then if it should fail.. you could buy another EXACT same plant to replace it .. which i have had to do.. but i still have the memories ....

There are systemics that are perfectly safe to use on edibles. And the scale infestation is not severe enough to warrant that anyway. I would manually remove as many as physically possible and use a horticultural oil to control any eggs or nymphs/larvae that might be lurking ready to re-infest.

Do they easily come off? Curious?

I once had spots like that on mine and it ended up being turds from caterpillar. You could be so lucky)

It looks like Scale to me too. I agree with gardengal's advice.

You might also look for ants. Ants like to farm scale and aphids - like cattle. They will actually carry these onto the plant. If you see ants you might want to dust the ground underneather with diotomatious earth; and dust the lower trunk with it too. I had this happening on my Meyer Lemon Tree and this was how I put an end to the "farming operation."

@Meyermike(Zone 6a Ma.) no they do not just rub or flick off.....and they actually do look like lil turds so idk.

@CA Kate z9 it doesnt look like scale to me.....

you know it is almost like they are little seeds stuck to the leaves, but they cant be smashed or popped.

It IS scale. You can see it on the stem as well as the leaves. Caterpillar frass does not attach itself to stems and is easily brushed off anyway.

@gardengal48 (PNW Z8/9) Oh My Gosh! rude aren't we.....i was saying i didn't think it was scale, because other plants i have seen that had scale did not like anything like this, not being ugly, but ok... no need to be bossy..."No further discussion required here" ok ok i get it , you say its definitely scale, great thanks for the info and i will see about getting rid of it...and also try to be a bit kinder, we aren't all Carol Kleins or GardenGals as yourself. You resurrected a 3 year old thread to contradict GardenGal (who is correct) with a questionable assertion? Do you know much about Nidulariaceae? Have you ever seen the eggs pop up 3 feet up on a shrub? Wouldn’t you think there would be cups all over the ground?
