Back splash for Bianco Antico Granite!

Hi I need help with back splash for Bianco Antico Granite counter top. I have maple cabinets and floors and white appliances I have been to tile store so many time that soon I may look like an employee there. I have brought a few samples home but can't make up my mind! Please help. The pictures that I am uploading are the best of the choice that I could come up with. Yet I am not convinced.

I agree that you really need to stay away from anything busy/patterned. Your counters are beautiful, but having a patterned backsplash is just going to be too much. I really love the idea of a simple subway tile backsplash, either in white, the sort of almond color that runs through your counters, or a dove gray (as suggested earlier). There are tons and tons of images on Houzz with these backsplash options, so do a search and see what you think. I totally understand wanting to stay away from the glass version, as it may be a bit more modern than you're after.

I also like the option that Linlac posted - mostly uniform thin tiles with just teeny bits of coordinating color. The trick is to have a really light hand when putting in the colored tiles.

Good luck! I totally understand the store employee feeling. You're almost there.

The 2nd image was take in the tile store with a combination of amazon brown travertine tile and mosaic tile in between with the sample of BA at the bottom.

Between the two the gray and white glass long tiles are the bet.

I always like a plain tile with a busier countertop so it doesn't compete. A subway tile in a neutral color would work or a plain tile on a diagonal for interest. You can play with a lighter tile with a darker grout for instance.

thanks travisinteriors and lanoway. I have been to home depot and lowes and the other tile store so many times that now nothing looks good. I somehow do not like the glass tiles and my hubby does not like the new steel tile. Please suggest some names for the shades. I absolutely love the BA counter top and would like to compliment it and not compete with it. Looking forward to your suggestions1

Subway tiles come in solid colors as well as glass, pick a color of veining in your countertop and find a solid tile to match. Then depending on the size of tile decide on your layout, such as a brick pattern, diagonal, etc. You can do a diagonal layout with inexpensive square tiles, brick pattern with subway tiles, etc. It is more time consuming to put up on a diagonal though because there are more cuts to make though.

HI -- None of those --when there is lots of movement in the granite ,it is always best to go with a plain color tile backsplash . Less grout lines ,the better too . A small mosaic is too busy again . Some long shallow tile shape would be better on the horizontal . You set the tiles in an off set pattern or a modern stack pattern .

The tiles on the right look better. Darker shades in the backsplash would create more interest and contrast in the kitchen.

U.S. ceramic makes those ubiquitos white subway tiles, but they make other colors as well.

they have a couple shades of grey, they aren't expensive, and they make bullnose pieces.
also, home depot sells them.

usually the grey is special order, so it'll take a week to get to you, but you can return full box overages.

Take sample of granite to tile store. Match a subway solid to the a color n granite not to dark a soft gray. There are other places besides lowes and Home Depot. If you can't find there go to another store. It may take time. But it goes up fast once you decide.

Simple subway tiles in a light color that matches your granite. Nothing busy or patterned. Let your granite be the star!

I would go with the basic white subway tiles which are glossy and rich looking and or an aluminum backs plash with either the aluminum tiles that are out in various shapes or just large sheets of it. Either of these keeps the eye on the terrific counter tops and cupboards and faucets and they are both easy to clean. They also go with everything. Keep it clean lines.

Thank you to all of you, I was getting really a little over whelmed by the idea of picking the right tile and then I read some where that subway style tiles are not in fashion any more. I like a mix of modern with a classy look. I will get to the drawing board right away. Thanks once again.

I am currently picking out a backsplash to go w the Bianco Antico and had trouble finding something I liked. I didn't like the glossy finish of the subway tiles but came across a matte finish subway tile which I LOVED. It's called architectural grey and with the white grout I think it will look great w/ our white cabinets. Good luck!

I ended up choosing subway style travertine in almost grayish white color. They look great and makes kitchen look very open.

So I am going for a white subway with a lite gray grout. The "buffett" side will be a "Bossy Gray" with the same grout. The frame around the stove will be a bossy gray 1 1/2 inch with a white pattern inside. I will show pictures within 2 weeks, Pick up the tile tomorrow or next week !! Below is the floor, Luxury Vinyl Tile, and below is the gray tile with the gray grout. (ignore the brown accent, its a show room piece) ..

This is the cooktop area, fresh "silver" grout with a white 4x8 glossy subway tile. The Frame showing is a Bossy Gray tile, wish is also what is in the buffet side of the room (lower picture) This also has the silver grout. Just enough to bring i out but not take over the look. The sides of the wall are Cape hattery sand a gray color, and I cant get the picture of the main kitchen to load yet. Floor is next. We are putting down a Luxury Vinyl Tile. Gray toned.

This is the main part of the kitchen, you are looking at about 10 feet across, we have just gotten the under cabinet lighting (Hitlight brand of strip lighting) and the diffusers. To do the entire kitchen with strip lighting, $109 and the 15 ft of diffusers was about another $50. The floor and lighting should go in this next week then I will post more pictures. :)

I agree with those directing you toward the solid subway.. Simple clean and I feel will be flood look for many more years to come the the glass tiles or the travertine

Just a follow up, The new kitchen is very comfortable and easy to keep clean with the storage we added. Love cooking on the DCS Appliances. The floor is very functional, Luxury Vinyl Tile. The Lighting is fantastic, turn on those baby's and its like that spring day we all look forward to in the Pacific Northwest. Cabinets and fully remodeled kitchen did not take out our Retirement !

Unfortunately I don't know name of these tiles, besides that they are travertine in white with gray hues. It was new product in the store.

We have the same counter and went with a subway tile that's a grey/beige color. I agree that you shouldn't compete with another pattern on the backsplash

My Bianco Antico was installed yesterday. I found these at HomeDepot that match mine pretty well.

I thought mine was pretty brown till it was installed and now it is looking so gray!

I have no idea! The Bianco Antico was my last choice for countertops, now I am having to completely re-think my backsplash choice. I was in Home Depot this morning and grabbed one of everything I thought might be interesting!

I hired a decorator to come in when I hit the "snag". $140 off Angies list ! She agreed on the white subway for me, (light cobb cabinets) see pic's above; with you having the light cabinets, and such a beautiful open kitchen, hummm,,,, I might play off the gray more in the back splash! You have the travertine floor, I might still look at the white subway as not to take away from the granite. There are some high end grays out there, ours was called "Bossy Gray". ....

My cabinets are dark so I will keep it light, but no subway tile for me. I REALLY love this Walker Zanger tile!! But it would be a 2 hour drive just to check it out and that probably isn't happening at this point.

(Please don't lecture me about it competing with the granite! That would be the point, I don't love it. It was my last choice; dictated by an incompetent countertop company who wasted 6 weeks of my time and cost me a lot of money.)

Depending on the color of your walls I would go with the white tiles. But either would work, would just be your personal preference. I have seen where both colours of tile where mixed together too. They are light colours so you could check out ways to use them together

It is finally finished! I ended up with the creamy tiles from Home Depot. They looked better than anything else I came up with.
