That is very sad to hear. Naylor Creek is just short drive from me and my ex and I spent a ton of $$ there over the years when the nursery was still open to the public. And not just hostas - that was one of my first introductions to epimediums as well, maybe 30 years ago. Lately I have seen, spoken to and bought from them at regional garden shows and sales but of course nothing for the last couple of years....there hasn't been any garden shows or local sales.

Jack is missed, Gary will be missed and the loss/closing of this great nursery is very, very sad.

Oh no, this is so sad to hear. He had a great nursery and his plants were always the best. But his posts on the fb Hosta group were what I will miss, they were always so entertaining and uplifting. He will be missed by so many, even those of us who never had the pleasure of meeting him in person.

Naylor Creek was always my first choice for plants, esp hostas. Always healthy and grew well in my garden.

I'm not on Facebook, so I never saw his posts. He will be missed by many.

How sad! He always wrote a nice little comment on every order, from Gary and Jack.

OMG! I feel so bad……I just sent an email to him Friday asking him to refund my order since I hadn’t received it and it’s now August……. I know he was having labor shortages and Naylor got stuck in that terrible heat dome. One of his emails was explaining that no orders had gone out because they were watering all the time. I had no idea he was sick or perhaps this summer he worked himself to death, literally.

I had never ordered from him before but knew his reputation was outstanding. He was the only nursery that had Parisian Blue and Amalia when I was shopping back in Feb. In the previous email he explained that he had holding the order up because, PB hadn’t come through the winter well and he was suggesting something in it’s place. Then he said he was going to mail out the order the next Monday. That was a couple of weeks ago. I am so sorry for his loss to our community……… :-(

ps according to the obituary, he was 89 and probably a decorated veteran. God bless.

Very sad indeed. Naylor Creek Nursery sent me my first hosta mail order in 2001, and that was followed by years of wonderful service from Gary and Jack. May he rest in peace.

Aw, this is a horrible shame. All the great nurseries are losing their owners or are closing due to retirement. I always got nice hostas from NC. RIP.

So sorry to hear this. Not only was Naylor Creek a great source for hostas, Gary came across as a very nice gentleman.

Gary and Jack! Loved them deeply and will always be grateful for the start they gave me in my businesses. They scooped me up and loved on me when my life abruptly changed. I hope they are together in the light and forever happy.

I ordered from them in May of 21 for the first time. Was very sad to hear about his passing. I know they had an extensive garden. Has there been any news if someone took over the nursery? Would be a shame if it all disappeared.

Marco Fransen was at Wisconsin winter scientific meeting and gave presentation about Gary. The house was bought by what seems like a nice lady, who remodeled it a lot and does a little of gardening but otherwise Naylors is a history. Mike and Fran from Hollywood Bob took over closing nursery. Am not sure what happened to goats.

I lost my Marshmallow Sky that only Gary had at that time and was really upset. I contacted Fran who gave me a gift of one of Gary's seedling. So now I have my Marshmallow Sky from Gary. It is amazing grower consider amount of white it has.
