Hi there. First time homeowner. Finally closed on a home after searching for a year. Hired a hardwood flooring contractor that was recommended by prior carpet contractor who did a good job. He quoted me 12k and asked for 6k in deposit. 5.3k was for demo, install, and finish of wood for kitchen, entryway, and powder bath. He did demo and partial install then decided to leave. He was constantly late and dishonest. It was a struggle.

I was wondering if anyone had experience or advice on small claims court. I was able to get another contractor out, and he calculated that the first guy did at most 4k in work and materials. I filed a police report but it’s only civil matter. They advised that I take pictures of the condition and small claims court.

I’m so upset. He had no integrity and cheated me. But is it really worth it taking him to court? Do you think they will side with me? I have an invoice showing what I mentioned above and a timeline too. Also photos of the condition.
