Have a single large barn (gooseneck) light over my kitchen sink. Love it; is a very functional piece of decor. The wide shape lights up the entire kitchen. IMHO light fixture, cabinet hardware, and faucet are the kitchen jewelry.🙂

Definitely agree with extra lighting over the sink and switch with dimmer. I love the type you’ve chosen. I’d put 2 or 3 smaller ones, as in your inspiration pic rather than one large one. I think you have the space for it. It’s gonna look lovely- good luck!

We have lights over the sink, and I love them. They're LED bulbs, we just leave them on 24/7. I don't think it would look busy at all. Ours are attached to the ceiling and hang down a bit.

I'm assuming an island is going to be added in this space -- what kind of lighting will be used over the island? Whatever you do, it should reflect /be similar to the lights over the sink.

You actually NEED to put some lighting directly over your sink since you don’t actually have any useful lighting there. The cans you DO have are positioned in such a way that they will cast a shadow when standing at the counter…..the cans will be directly behind you (not when at the sink but when standing on either side of the counter….your body will block the light that you actually want shining on your counter). So it is not merely a decorative thing to add lighting where you’re suggesting. You have zero lighting over your sink which is super important to have simply for function.

Mrs Pete - There is a peninsula. Here is a further out pic. Have been debating pendant lights along the beam over the peninsula. If there are lights over the sink, thinking not to do pendant lights over peninsula for fear of it looking too busy.

Using the same style of light helps prevent it from looking busy.

I am adding a flush mount schoolhouse over my sink. The same manufacturer does goosenecks in a variety of shade styles, sizes and colors. Barnlight I have several lights from them in my home

I wouldn't add any lights over the penninsula. You might consider putting one sconce light on the penninsula wall above the outlet to match the three over the sink window.

I think the more light the better, especially in a kitchen, when you really want to see what you are doing.

Another thing you may not be aware of, when you get older, your eyes really do need more light. So please put it in your kitchen now, even if you might not need it at the moment.

Please do use the type of lighting that won't make you feel hot.

The last thing you need in a kitchen is a hot light bearing down on your head, face and neck!

One over the sink…two over the peninsula….but the ceiling cans should line up with the counters a little better…
