I thought my baptisia had died this year. After years of increasing in size and blooming better every year, suddenly this spring it didn’t come up. Because the plant was getting bigger every year I had responded by giving it more space. So there i was, looking at a huge hole in my perennial bed. Eventually after every other plant was up and growing, the baptisia slowly emerged. Needless to say, it failed to bloom at all and is much smaller than previous years. I don’t know what to think or do about it other than to chalk it up to a very disappointing gardening season.

My Baptisia austalis was very late emerging this spring, but it came back strong and had a nice amount of blooms. My plant is 2 or 3 decades old.

Mine bloomed ok, they are only a few years old. They do seem to be much floppier than usual, though.

Mine was fabulous last year, this year no blooms.

Almost no blooms on mine (Montana). I have 4 of them and 1 didn't come back this spring and another looks to be on its last gasp. The other 2 are established and made nice foliage, but that's about it.

It's possible the deer ate the buds, though I don't think they love baptisia.
