I'd find a lower side table that sits at a height similar to the top of your mattress. Your headboard has a craftsman style - the tables and bench you have tried "fight" with the headboard style, which is probably why they don't appeal to you. Google craftsman nightstands and craftsman bench and you'll get lots of ideas. I would also get a larger bedspread so it covers some of the gap between the top of the bed and the floor.

I think you're not liking the nightstands you're trying because they're too tall for the bed. They should be about the same height as the top of mattress.

@Sammie J, thanks that makes sense we are testing out a new mattress which is a few inches shorter than our previous mattress. I will look up craftsman style we also have a footboard that isnt on the bed right now since we are having carpet installed so that should cover from the duvet down.
